Windscreen washer nozzle

hello, the end of one of the screen washer nozzles has broken off (near side). I've bought a new pair, how much of the dash has to come out to get at the threaded end? Or (hopefully) is there a way of replacing them without taking the dash out?

Somewhere on the web there's a video by an Australian*** who taps the new nozzles on with a soft faced hammer.....here it is.
It is on a Defender but might be the same for a Series?

My S2a has tubes to the wipers, no nozzles. Its not a bad solution, came that way.

Thanks for posting that but unfortunately the series is different, although I'm tempted to get a defender end piece and see if I can fix it onto the broken end of my nozzle

I took the end cap of the dash off yesterday for an exploratory look, there was a nest of spiders in there with about 20 spiders all pretending to be dead. Luckily, I don't mind spiders.

I'm ashamed to admit that when one of my nozzles got blocked many years ago, I fixed it my cutting the hose where I could see it under the dash, and running a new length of hose out through the vent, to a new nozzle that I had taped to the blocked one. A dreadful bodge, but good enough to get through the MoT test!

Fixed it properly in my rebuild, of course. Although I put the new nozzles on and plumbed them in before I fitted the dash, so I'm afraid I can't help advise on quite what you need to remove to be able to get to the back of them.

I spose I just need to get on and remove the dash. I think I'm a bit apprehensive about what I might discover in terms of corrosion, out of sight, out of mind. My landy passed the mot with the broken washer jet, it was just an advisory but I have a good relationship with the garage, they know I'll fix stuff they mention. Personally, I like the odd, well thought out bodge, I did consider cutting the end off the new nozzle and super gluing it to the remainder of the old one.

I agree that a well thought out bodge can be used to sort problems, there is always something that needs to be done.
If it fixes the issue without any safety implications at some point in the future you can address it properly if needed when you have to take dash apart.

I swapped both nozzles a couple of years ago, it wasn't too fiddly. I removed the top dash and the side panels, and then it wasn't too difficult. Except the fact that one of the nozzles didn't come off at all, the nut had seized completely, so I ended up cutting it off from the outside anyway. I knew that angle grinder would come in handy when I bought it!

How did you remove the top dash screw that is directly behind the metal strip that separates the two windscreen panes? It's so close to it that I can't get a screwdriver at it. It must have been put in before the screen was fitted.

Had my dash top of last year used a 1/4" flexi drive adapter with a phillips bit on the end.

Can you not get a flexi screwdriver in there?
Or small wrench & possi head?

Either fold the windscreen forwards...

...or how about using one of those hex driver bits in a ring spanner?

Don't I need to remove the roof to fold the screen forward? I've never really had a good look at it. Driver bit in a ring spanner is a good idea, I'll try that today, thanks.

You certainly need to remove the bolts along the front edge of the roof. Not sure whether you can get enough flex in the roof to allow it to lift enough to fold the windscreen forwards from beneath it, or whether you'll need to at least slacken off all the other roof bolts, too. Certainly not the easiest thing to do...

Finally, I've removed the dash top and replaced the broken washer nozzle, what a pain. The dash had obviously been off previously cos the other nozzle had been replaced by a PO and he had mangled every screw head. There seems to be more screws holding the dash on than there is holding the body on. One last little problem. The water hose is too narrow to fit onto the new nozzle, blast, damn and bugger it.
