Hi.
My 1987 110 windows fog up all the time. Despite having the heater on full blast with great heat coming up from the vents. In fact it is worse with the heater on full blast. Don't know if its the heater of somethign else at fault. Fitted new fan but no improvement.
My series does not do this.
Can anyone help, please.

It could be what's been said - a leaking matrix or the drain at the bottom of the heater intake bloked. OR ...

It could be general water ingress, probably from the windscreen - bulkhead foam seal, leaking behind the dash soaking the foam noise insulation over the bell housing. This stores loads of water, as soon as you try warming up the 'car' it all steams up.

It's one of these anyway... probably! ;)

At the bottom of the air intake below the wing there is a small rubber drain pipe that gets clogged with dirt allowing water to sit in the air box.
Its a bugger to see, let alone get to, but run a hose pipe into the air intake (make sure its the heater intake on the top of the wing and not the engine intake on the side) and "massage" the rubber tube until the water runs freely. This will solve the problem so long as your matrix is OK.

Suggest 1pt of water first otherwise with a hose, if the drain's blocked, it'll be more than misting up if you take more than 10 seconds to clear the drain... :D

Good point. Should have said use the hose sparingly. You dont need a lot of water but you need enough to wash the debris away. I check mine every six months or so.
The proper way is to take the air intake off and clean it but it takes ages and you run the risk of shearing the screws etc. Plus in my shed its easier to find the hose than a screw driver because its bigger and stands out amongst the pile of tools that I call organised on the floor. I'll get round to tidying up one day. Honest!

Hi Shifty,
Your garage sounds much like mine, I've just GOT to get it sorted, it's becoming embarassing even if I can still find the tools when I need them. It's like a game of bloody hopscotch to get from one end of the garage to the other right now. Too many things on the go at the same time.

Hi ALL.

Many thanks for all the advice. I eventually go round to sorting the problem / problems.
The air box was not blocked, Pity as this would have been the simlpeist thing to fix.
Gasket between air box & heated box perished, but not the main problem.
So removed heater box, Well it fell out. Top where it bolts to Bulk Heaad was completly rotten. Watter seeping in through the top of it into heater box. Also Heater Matrix leaking slightly.

Luckly I had a complete spare heater box ( from unfinished project ) Popped it in last weekend and now no steam in the cabin.

Only for the advice & pointers I received from all on LandyZone I would still be wondering which way to turn.

Again Many Thanks.
I now have my vehicle ready to compete in our 4x4challenge in Aid of Templestreet Childrens Hospital, Dublin in October ( see 4x4challenge.org )
