I had a quick search and found replies but none which seemed to fit my exact problem...

I have a p38 DSE and the error message of all the windows and sunroof not setting comes up on the dash on starting and switching off the vehicle.

The other threads talk of removing the error message by putting the windows down but these aren't working at all neither going up nor down!!

I've just bought the vehicle [knowing the fault] and will get it on a diagnostic machine in the new year, but does anyone have any suggestions please that I can go outside and try over this festive period instead of eating myself to death?

Cheers from a newbie :D

Do they ever set at all??

To set you need to go all the way down with the window and then come straight back up without taking your finger off the button and hold the button until it beeps saying window set.

Was it sold to you with this as a specific 'fault' or was the previous owner a garage that couldn't be bothered to figure out to read the manual??

To be clear though this is what the manual says incase you dont have it...

’Anti-trap’ function
The ’anti-trap’ function is a safety feature
which prevents a window from closing when
an obstruction is sensed (’WINDOW
BLOCKED’ appears in the message centre). It
is recommended that this is set at all times,
but particularly when carrying children.
NOTE: If the ’one-touch’ and ’anti-trap’
functions have not been set, an audible
warning sounds and ’WINDOW NOT SET’ is
displayed in the message centre whenever a
window is closed and also whenever the
Setting the ’one-touch’ & ’anti-trap’
functions

If the battery has been disconnected, it will be
necessary to reset the ’one-touch’ and
’anti-trap’ functions on each window, using
the following procedure:

1. FULLY open and close each window in
one continuous operation (note that as the
window is closing, an audible warning
sounds and ’WINDOW NOT SET’ is
displayed in the message centre).

2. Once the window has been fully opened
and closed, an audible warning sounds
and ’WINDOW SET’ (together with a
window identifier message) is displayed in
the message centre.

The ’one-touch’ and ’anti-trap’ functions will
now be operational.

NOTE: The ’one-touch’ up function is
available on front windows only.

Hi wills and thanks for your reply, as I said though the windows won't go up or down at all so I can't reset anything!

I took the car in part exchange and knew about the fault :)

Oh right, ok, just re-read and see what you mean, must of missed what you said originally.

In that case check fuses 2, 12 and 22 under the drivers seat behind the little panel that pops off.

If they are ok then next thing to suspect in my opinion would be the window switch pack. Its very easy to spill stuff into that and wouldn't surprise me if it was full of coke or something.

Do the power mirrors work, can you change their angles all ok??

I'll check the fuses now, but thinking about it you're right! The mirrors won't move either....

I just got one of those downloaded workshop manuals from fleabay and saw about changing the switch pack.

Thanks again for your reply!

In that case I would def suspect the window switch pack, literally a two minute job to replace. Open centre cubby box, remove two screws at the top of the window switch pack, tilt it forward, disconnect multi-plug, remove handbrake gaiter and thats it.

See RangeRovers.net :: View topic - Windows u/s *FIXED* for an example of someone who also had a dead switch pack and how he diagnosed and fixed it.

If you take it apart and find no obvious signs of burnt electronics or whatever then I would get a volt meter and check the voltage between pin 1 (purple & blue) and 6 (black) on the connector that goes into the switch pack (make sure the ignition is at the first stage at least)...

With luck you should have 12 volts.

Let us know how it goes
