Window switch problem - no the usual

Hi all,

After a successful christmas wiring in my front seats at long last, the ranges decided it would throw yet another spanner into the works, so to speak.

My windows packed up completely and after searching the forums, I replaced the switch panel for one from a breaker. It fixed the problem and my windows were working fine for about a week until the drivers side front window decided it would go down and not come back up. This is the fault so far: window goes down when the button is pressed but when pressing the up button nothing happens. I can't hear any relays clicking or the like. It did start working for 5 minutes the other day when you selected the rear windows off, the front drivers window would go up. When rear windows are on, the front window would not come up. Sounds strange I know! Has anyone had something similar? The switch panel has warranty, but I'm reluctant to send it back if its not that. Are the door outstation units prone to doing strange things?

At present the windows off trick isn't working, but it did temporarily yesterday.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

With the window down, lock the car with the FOB and hold the lock button for 5 seconds, the window should close unless lazy locking has been disabled. That will prove if the outstation is working. I would guess that the replacement switch pack has failed.

Would the window need to be set for that to work? Only because in my desperation to fix it, I disconnected the battery today and because its not working, I haven't been able to set it. Perhaps if the land rover angels work their magic tonight, it may start working again tomorrow so I can try that.

Yes the window needs to be set for lazy locking to work. Even if it starts working it's unlikely to stay that way.

Ok. Well I may be able to get it working and try your theory. I reckon it'll be a duff switch pack again but I don't wanna send it back to the breakers if it was the outstation etc. thanks for the heads up. I never knew about the lazy locking.

Haven't read the owners manual then

Closes all the windows and sunroof if you have one, great feature. Lots of other useful info in the book

I only turn to the owners manual when things go really wrong! Lol

Fortunately I don't have a sunroof. I was scared off by a good friend with a disco, when I see him putting buckets inside his car whenever it rained!

I'd send that switch pack back & get it replaced.

If that doesn't fix it you'll then be looking at a dodgy microcontroller or relay inside the becm.

When my switch pack stopped working i could use my nanacom to operate all the windows and mirrors so if you have acess to one and the widow works with it then the switch pack is faulty.

I currently have the same problem, did you manage to solve it? Also does anybody know if it's possible to fix the switch without replacing the entire switch pack? Gaz

Solved this issue by wedging a piece of card underneath the pointy bit of the switch that presses down on to printed circuit board underneath, all sorted.
