ive got an 88 with safari hard top and side windows, which are currently off as I'm going topless...question is, glass in one of the sides is missing and so are the aluminium felt channel things, I can't bet them anywhere out here and don't know that I can be doing with trying to fit them. So, what else could I put in place of the glass..? I live where it only rains for a few days a year. So I wondered about a dust screen type mesh material? Any thoughts gratefully appreciated...

You can buy the channel strip by the metre and the self tapping screws. Pretty sure that you can also get the glass panels for the sliding side windows and the catch mechanism, if you rebuilt the sliding windows you'd have light, ventilation and security. Alternative would be a canvass tilt from Exmoor Trim with the frame which would be ideal for hot climate.

Putting a dust screen type mesh will stop airflow as much as just fitting a solid glass , why not just put a sliding ali panel , very easy to make up HTSH

Hmmmm, yes. See what you mean both. Might see how easy it is to rig up a dust screen type thing, I've got them on the windows of my house, very fine mesh so should look OK.
Failing that, am liking the Ali panel idea. Should be quite straightforward

You can also find plexiglas sheets of different thickness in most hardware stores. Not expensive. You can cut, bend (with heat and some practice) or drill holes in them and they can be glued or screwed to practically anything. Myself never used them for windows so no idea how safe they are if broken. Landys are pretty weak on side collision. I hope some more experienced people express opinion on this option.

The trouble with plexiglas is that sunshine and dusty environments soon reduce its transparency and it begins to look hazy. It is relatively cheap though, strong and easy to work e.g. cut and drill etc. as stated by 85Santana3.
