My P38 has bubbling of the plastic coating on the door window sorrounds. I assume that its caused by rust. What's the best way to tackle it? Can I replace the black plastic covering?

The bubbling isn't rust so much but electrolysis (the panels are aluminium) but it looks like crap doesn’t it? the plastic frame can be removed and replaced but why? the plastic hasn't rusted away and that’s not your problem, but slide them out don't pull on them when you take them out, you will brake the buts holing it in if you do, if you want to DIY it, treat it much the same as mild steel, but when you spray it you’ll have to use a etch primer on it so the undercoat and top coats (and varnish) wont all peel away, i’m no expert but that’s the way I understand it

Dopey- Much appreciated, thanks. If I can get the plastic trims off without damaging them I'll have a go at the surfaces underneath myself. I'm not sure where the buts holding them in place are located. Do I slide upwards off the window frames?. At the points where they have blistered the plastic looks a little stretched, that's why I wondered about replacement. The other option might be to discard the plastic and instead paint the refurbishes surfaces.

If i remember correctly the plastic bits holding the strip in ate like star grommets, if you do brake them you’ll have to go to Land Rover dealer and get more (i don't know anybody who dose them other than the dealer) have a careful look at the strip though there could be screws holding them some place (at the ends???)

They slide along the door >>>>, so open the door for a better grip and it will make life easier for you

Hi
Are you talking about the strip along the bottom of the windows or the rubber frame that goes accross the top and down the two sides of the windows?, if it`s the latter i was under the impression they were rubber coated steel strips and cost around £35 each (please correct me if ime wrong) both of my back doors need replacing apparantly they can be a bit arkward to fit.

Hi. Thank you for your help. Its the rubber frame along the top and down the sides of the windows. Both my back doors and the passenger front all have the disease. Do you recon this is a DIY job (amateur status) ?

Its both my back door too and my passenger front has just started, i have been told that they can be arkward to fit because they can twist as they are being fitted but if you take it steady it is a doable diy job.
Good luck
Mark
