Goony means....OOH THIS IS JUST STUPID!Ratty doesn't know what you mean
but you were to try it in the first place...........
You can't physically hoist you're self off the floor with a single line looped over a solid object because the friction on the line means that you are attempting to pull more than you're body weight once you start to lose contact with the ground you no longer have anything to brace against and lose the ability to pull. It may be possible to climb hand over hand and as a result drag yourself off the floor but you'd need amazing upper body strength
beg to differ, throw a rope over a steel lamp post tie one end round your neck, take other end in hands and pull, rope goes tight, pull again hand over hand and up you go. i think you will find you dont have to be that strong to get yourself up in the air unless you one fat fcuker which im not.
if i had a video camera and knew how to get the footage online i would do it again to prove how easy it is but this time i wouldnt make the loop a slip knot.
try it and see for yourself it is very easy and you dont have ta be that strong

Go on then, put a prussic on it too somwhere so u dont come back down. Id watch that on youtube.
As I said it may be possible to do it hand over hand! but you have to be able to hold you're entire body weight on one hand as you climb and that takes a lot of upper body strength. I spent several years rock climbing and tried this manouvre several times. but whilst sitting in a climbing harness. and never managed to get myself off the floor. As well as you're own bodyweight you also have the friction of the rope to contend with which adds to the weight you're pulling down on.
