Only safe place to anchor it would be the tow bar, but that would be completely in the way or leave you with no ground clearance.
Would put it on the trailer with a 110 amp leisure battery plugged into the trailer electrics to charge it. Easy if you have both towing sockets already .

I would make a bracket that mounts on the trailer, but is also mountable on the towbar.... And use these to wire it upto the vehicle PAIR 50 AMP ANDERSON CONNECTOR 6mm CABLE TERMINAL JUMP START BATTERY POWER PLUG | eBay

Just weld/bolt a bracket onto the trailer on a nice strong bit. What sort of winch depends on how fit you are and what to be winching and how often. We have a hand winch on my trailer at work that is good for about 3.5 tonnes or more. It pulls a car up with ease.

make a mount on the a frame of the trailer...if your planning on picking up a lot of non working vehicles then yes electric..if not then a hand winch will do for the odd time.

If you are going to fit one, fit it to the A-frame just in front of the trailers bulkhead and cut a hole in the bottom of the bulkhead to pass the cable through. Mounting it high enough to clear the front will just be in the way.

Do you need one though? Its pretty rare for me to use the winch on my trailer - its just a hand winch which cost under £40, but will pull a couple of tons easily enough - Last time I used it was to winch up a Citroen that was stuck in gear so was pulling against the compression of the engine and it was fine. Sure, an electric winch would have been less effort, but it would also be a load more cash, more weight on the trailer and another battery to maintain if it doesnt get used or charged regularly.

Also, the one time you are trying to pick up a broken down car on a dark rainy night and the winch electrics fail or the battery turns out to be flat, you will really wish you had a hand winch.

I wouldn't mount a winch. Get a portable 1 - you can use it where ever and on whatever end of the car/trailer you wish then - just hook it onto the recover loops on the car or loop it round the draw bar of the trailer or it you have to fix a ring/loop on the trailer in a suitable place to connect it to.

If you need to get the Mini onto the trailer before you've sorted a winch - use tie down straps with the rachets - thats how I move my SIII around - its engine is caput, so if I need to move it and can't get the Freelander into a place to move it, I use straps wrapped round trees/fence posts/whatever to shift it.

Seconded for the portable winch, I have one there a god send for trailer's my old car trailer had a tow ball mounted on the front A frame that the winch hooked on to. It's safer as it can.be removed when not in use. Heavy loads can be snatch blocked doubling the winches pulling power.

Added advantage is it can be used on the cars towbar too if you need to move stuff around
