Hi Guys,

Went to Tixover last Sunday and managed to get the Disco stuck!! I had no choice but to try and winch myself out (submerged I know) which has led to my winch no longer working!! Now, I have whipped off the motor and it's pretty grim in there, has anyone ever rebuilt their winch? If so how easy is it to do? Failing that, could I get it rewound and dried and baked? Any winch repair centre in the midlands I could use?

i have just finished doin my warn xd9000i winch as it seemed underpowerd.

when we got it apart if was full of mud,the contacts were stuck solid and didnt move in or out.
there was no grease atall anywhere.

so we took it all apart and cleaned the parts using a parts cleaner,re greased everything and re assembled.
works like a dream now.

my advice take pics each time you take a section apart it will make it alot easier when reassembling

How did you free the inside of the motor off? I've undone the 2 long bolts that hold the motor to the chassis, I cant work out how to get the motor out the housing? Is there any special grease that you used?

a lot of jiggleing side to side and some good squirts of wd40 should free it eventualy..

when we reassembled it along with the gaskets we used silicone aswell

Surely this asks the question, why do people fit the winches on the front and not the rear?? As it must be easier to pull it back out rather that try to pull it though what ever it gets stuck in??
