Thinking of a pto front winch off the crank pulley, thinking of using a cut up axle to turn the drive through 90 degrees and have a brake and some decent bearings to put a drum on, gearing it down so its not ridiculously fast shouldn't be too difficult, I just need some sort of a clutch to engage/disengage, i was thinking a simple hydraulic system, a big lever in the cab with an ordinary master cylinder operating a normally off clutch.

Google 'god winch' .. a very useful bit of usually hand-made kit .. They can be incredibly (dangerously so) fast and massively powerful .. ;) Often used overseas, especially Jungle areas, where access to 'standard' electric winches isn't as good.

Wow, I've tried searching for video's on PTO winches before and didn't know what people called them, thank you

Yeah, UK PTO winches are strong but slow, usually. Most god winches are home-made from whatever's available and mostly used in competition. Loads of info on them available, but I can't recall anyone selling them.
