That's like saying dog poo is better than cat poo, both are shyte.Yes, does my head in. Better than Windows 8 was though. That was really horrible.

Compared to XP, win 95 or 3.11 it is slow, even with the maximum RAM and a core i5 CPU, plus it keeps coming up with stupid messages in a line at the bottom of the screen where it's less noticeable than in the centre of the screen.7 is not slow, you need to clean the system or the processor is slow or insufficient RAM.

Funny, I worked in computers all my life, designed and manufactured hardware, have systems in the National Computer Museum, I think I know how to clean up a computer. Do you have other systems side by side to bench mark the speeds? Win 7 is Vista with some of the bugs removed, the government will not use iWin 7, they are still paying Micropoo to maintain XP the last I heard. That will be the machine not the operating system. Do a clean up, Windows 7 is not slow. Defragment and download CCleaner free version and use that to clear unwanted crap.

Build your own system? That amounts to buying a mother board and plugging in some memory, choosing a fast HDD and a few other bits, my 10 year old grandson can do that.. I used to design boards and make them, also had our own operating system that would run 5 dumb terminals and a printer on a 386 giving millisecond response times on sales order processing.Ok carry on, i build my own systems don't buy ready made ones never have. Windows 7 is not slow. It is down to the speed of the machine using it.

It must be wonderful to know everything about absolutely everything. Sadly I never reached such heights of knowledge, my one blessing is that I continue to learn despite my age.Good for him, maybe he can help you with your wife's Windows 7, obviously you don't have a clue what to do with it. Windows 7 is not slow unless clogged up with crap or the machine itself is slow.

The only thing that gives a significant improvement on my wife's Win 7 laptop is to back up all the data to an external hard drive, wipe the drive and do a complete re-install which is time consuming. It is then faster, but not for long.
The way I heard it, Micropoop were sending updates with the deliberate function of clogging up machines to slow them down to the point where you got fed up and bought a new machine. My 7 was unbearably slow so my neighbour formatted it and now it's as quick as you like. However, it came with Muck caffee so that was binned immediately It also comes with utter shite that has no bearing on how it functions and all about how they can spy on you! Most of it got binned. ALL I need the 7 to do is play music/films and occasionally fix my suspension
I agree with the update thing mentioned earlier. As I didn’t have internet on my XP cpu (long time ago) I never encountered problems others had but the one day I did update it, it became too much hassle to be worth using it.
