Will start but no acceleration

Curious, there is a second partial cut mark above the break, almost as if it's been trapped against a sharp edge.

Hi Datatek, yes well spotted someone had also used this to wire what i presume to be a hot start fix (a small black box with 4 other wires going to the EDC loom)
a bloody mess

Wammers I was just looking at the illustration picture of that link the sensor i removed did not have the dumbbell looking piece in the top part of the sensor it's still in the FIP must be broken ! looks like it will be the problem :D

The dumbbell shaped thing IS the sensor. The other bit if that is the one in your photo is NOT the sensor. You should NOT be able to see the connectors when you remove the top of the pump suggest you refit it VERY carefully indeed.

I need a drink :(

Let us hope you don't need a new injection pump. If you are hanging by two ropes over a long drop. Cut the one around your neck by all means but never the one around your waist. If you do cut a rope make sure it is the right one. ;);)

I've come across this problem a few times.

If your fuse box had failed then more chance than not it usually takes another or a few ECU's out with it. It might of spiked your engine ecu. You can mimick the same problem by slightly unseating the ECU connector.

I thank you for that information Rick and will try swapping the ECU tomorrow I have ECU from a 98 but poorly rangie is a 97 so don't think it will suit. Will have a look anyway
Cheers

I like that :D my nature is to cut both :(

I have a pre EGR ECU if you need one, would swap for an EGR version:)

Cheers for that Datatek it is worth a try but will update on my efforts this morning :)

Put a known good fuel temp sensor in and fip top fitted back on started rangie without air intake fitted but intake sensor connected, From cold no acceleration whatsoever but once warm acceleration normal without load. What has changed is once drive is selected car will creep forward and will not accelerate past 1k revs
Which is a improvement i think what u guys think before i start a fire

At this stage you really do need to put some diagnostics on it. You could be buggering about for another month guessing. If it's 97 you need a 97 ECU but you would need diag to sync it to the BECM. Security code will be different.

Looks like i need to ramp the overdraft up and get on to BBS . I really appreciate the help given and find this forum invaluable
Cheers

Depending on where you are in Essex you could be from 10 to 100 miles away from me! If it's nearer the former end of the scale I could pop over to do the resync. PM me with your rough location if you need diags, I have a Lynx - I know very little about the workings of Diesel P38s though! Could be the blind leading the blind!

That is most kind of you but may not need diags YET :)

Thought i would have a cuppa and a think went back to the sick rangie and started up whilst running i unplugged the air intake sensor and as expected a different tone to the running engine so tried to rev engine and nowt happened so cleaned sensor terminals with electrical cleaner plugged in and revs now good so went for a short drive and car was driving albeit not the best but driving and picking up speed . Any significance ?
