Wouldthat be the only difference?
Thinking is it the same wiring other than the connector? I can get one for sod all and am wondering if changine connectors might work then

Also seen a new one for a 5 speed box for 30 quid. I really am wondering why we d2 owners pay so much 8(

Im expecting to fork out sooner or later as my service history shows 2 xyz switches in last 5 yrs. I couldn’t believe what they go for even second hand. Let us know if you hack the p38 one and it works!

Hi Ron,
Do you use your aircon much?
A friend with skinny arms ( who will be taking mine off ) added a section of tubing to his so it drips below the car.

I doubt it can be hacked just like that, the P38's switch has only 4 wires going into the connector cos it has an interface between the switch and ECU while the D2's switch has 10 wires and it's connected directly to the ECU... better forget about that IMO.

Have you checked to see that the XYZ switch doesn't just need taking apart and cleaning up? there are threads out there about how to do this and it really don't seem too tough?

Yes, i have held each of the two types. The p38 i looked at had 6 wires. The D2 had 9 both So as SF has now informed is there are varieties thete as well, then without effectively totally rewiring and possibly re-postioning contacts it's a no go.

I waas actually hoping to finish up owning two switches and swapping them as required so as to still use the car while cleaning out the other one.

Don’t forget those gearboxes were fitted to many other cars.

BMW, Volvo, Peugeot, Jaguar and others. Maybe one of them is compatible and cheaper.

Don’t think the D2 being 4x4 would make a diff.

Just a thought:)

As long as the ECUs of various vehicles fitted with the same boxes are not the same(and they are not) the wirings will be different as well IMO and maybe the internals too

@sierrafery I don’t doubt your knowledge at all. Just trying to think “out of the box” as a thought and throwing maybe a possible in the hat:)
