Thought I would post up where I am up to so far.

Picked up a blue 1990 defender 90 not so long ago in a bit of a sorry state.

So far:

  • MOT Done
  • Body stripped
  • Painting started
  • welding done
  • some holes filled/fiberglassed
19J Engine is a bit tired (still goes ok to be fair) so picked up a second hand 300TDI engine to fit over the next few weeks.

New steering damper bought, clear lights from boltonbits bought ready to fit.

Things still to sort:

  • Finish Paintwork
  • New Windscreen
  • Finish Raptor Dash Install
  • 3 Degree Radius Arms to fit
  • off side swivel pin/bearing
  • new exhaust ( literally fell apart)
  • new seats as the old ones were knackered to say the least
  • find gearbox oil leak
  • more to come....

How are you painting yours? And with what paint?

Painting with a cheap ass compressor to be honest. Its actually coming out OK just a bit of a pain to use.

Base layer is white high build primer (cellulose) and the orange G4 top coat is coach enamel.

Base layer is mixed 50/50 and the coach enamel im thinning down about 5-10% just to get a good spray pattern.

Wiggsy, i just wired up raptor dash to a 110 the lad who i did it for wasn't exactly sure on what all the switches were going to do so things got fitted and changed as we went.

It turned out ok in the end but its not pretty under there. I ve done my best to neaten it up but it would have been a lot neater if things have been planned better from the start and may be a muti plug fitted so things be removed in one go.

Have you planned what you are going to with all the holes?

Regards
Lee

To be truthful im in a similar boat. Wires are a right mess. Multiplug seems like a good idea. Ive just been putting bullet connectors in and trying to leave the wires labeled.

I ran some trunking up from the battery box, fitted what we ended up calling an "accessory" mini fuse board in the battery compartment to run the extra lights he is going to put on.
Because he did know what he was going to fit i ran some of the switches through some 30 amp relays, a bit over kill as the raptor switches are rated at 20 amps but i just don't know what he will add on after.

Would have stacks better if things had been planned.

Looks like a tidy install. Im thinking of wiring all the switches up whilst its off the vehicle and putting a mini fuse box somewhere.

I didn't want to use the battery box as I don't want to have to run loads of wires. My fuse box is one of the old glass efforts, so was thinking about replacing the whole lot and making my own fuse box per say.

Couple of these maybe:

Planning is always the best way to start but we cant always see in to the future

Not had much time to work on the truck over the last few weeks. But I have finished painting the rear cross-member and putting the lights and decals back on.

Hoping to get the roof and sides back on next weekend, and then finish the wiring.

Some more bits arrived today:

Wide wheel Arches
New Door Hinges and fittings
New roof -> side panel seals
Some universal fuse boxes to sort out my corroded glass fuse box
Various bits of paint (defo orange)
Some black rivets
Rear quarter panel chequer plate in black
Fuel filler surround chequer plate in black

Ill try and get some pics of the items tomorrow

Well after a long delay, finally progress is being made again.

Roof and sides to go back on next weekend and then nearly there! (Well Almost)

Have some seats and wheel spacers on order. Plus still some wiring to do for the raptor dash but 99% of what I will need to start with is working.
