Hi

Right before all the defender and disco boys start I know all the problems with taking a freebie through water, and the fact that it is more at home on the roads than in the gaping mud holes that defendos and discos live in.....

But still i was wondering if there was al reason why there was never one designed for the diesel models. Theres one for the v6 petrol, but thats the only one i'm aware of.

thanks matt.....

simple cause the doors would fall off before you needed the snorkel

knew there would be one...

I'm not really interested in it as it would be a purely cosmetic piece. I was just curious if there was a technical or mechanical issue that made it impossible. but it seems that it's a simple supply and demand issue.

thanks matt..

Isn't it because the alternator on the TD4 is in a position worse than the V6, and so it would fry the electrics easier?
So maybe LR thought, no point issuing a snorkle for the TD4?

Wading depths:
Freelander: 500mm
Freelander 2: 500mm
Landrover 110 td5: 500mm (No Snorkle)
Defender 90: 500mm
Discovery 3 (Air Suspension): 700mm
Disco 3: 600mm

mm4x4 have one on there freelander but they dont sell it on there website but im sure i have seen it on the wall in there shop (there website has nothing compared to there shop) try giving the a bell maybe?

seems like mantec may have made one at one time, from searching, the part no. was BFA 6004. However, this was off another forum, and the guy featured (desert warrior) was also featured in LROI magazine a while back, and it showed his td4 snorkel.

may be worth a call to mantec to see if they can help. here is the link to the thread:

Oh right, didn't know that. What's the difference between the td4 doors & the petrol doors (seeing as they make snorkels for them)
then oh wise one.

I do believe there is such a beasty as the G4 prepared Freelander has a snorkel and is not exactly a slouch in the off-road department. As has been suggested I suspect that there isn't a large after-sales market out there to make it a readily available item of kit.

I'm sure a tad of digging will bear fruit should you wish to purchase one.

Don't they produce they compromise the performance of the engine somewhat?

do ya mean one of these?

I have a 2001 td4 and was thinking about making my own snorkel, the air intake runs up the inside of the o/s/f wing!

Hi there,

On "our" Belgium Freelander Forum there was a member who fitted a snorkel to his Freelander TD4 facelift.

But he had to shape and bent things himself to make it fit. Personally I don't like the snorkel and for the rest: Too much bling bling for me.
But, the airvents on the side I like. Useless but I like it.

Cheers,
Silkwood

Looks ok at a glance but when you pay closer attention to it I can see how stupid it is. It looks like someone has attached guttering to their car. Funny thing is that it has a snorkel but it has normal road tyres...

Personally I wouldn't bother putting a snorkel on a Freelander. You will start floating by the time you're deep enough to warrant having a snorkel!
