I have only owned my Disco 2, 2001 model for 4 weeks (Auto). I noticed that hot air is blowing on my left leg as I drive to the point of becoming unbearable after 20min driving. The heating system is not on and the hot air stops as I stop and then resumes as speed increases. Is their a heat shield missing? Is one suppose to be there? As I run my hand along the console and up under the dash its crazy hot?? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Have you got out and under the car to see if there are any holes under there?
TBH it isn't anywhere near the exhaust which runs along the nearside .
We have to assume your car is right hand drive as if it isn't and you are burning your left leg you REALLY have a problem. 🤣
TBH it really does sound like a problem with your heater ducting. Have you tried turning the knob to "cold" and /or putting the Air Con on? That is if you have it.
Does the temp gauge sit in the middle like it should?

Hi, Yes the temp gauge sits where it should. I will get underneath tomorrow to check for possible damage also I'll play around with the air con and see what happens. The seller say the air con is brand new connected but not gased yet, not sure if that changes anything?

All you will find regarding a heat shield under the vehicle it will be bolted to brackets below the floor and positioned above the mid exhaust box, although some times with after market mid boxes it attached.

If with the D2 you need the heater dampers closed to stop the hot air flow into the cab, its the same with a manual like my D1 with the rotary dials, but with climate controlled a/c its done electronically via the dash display unit…it has been known that the damper can stay wide open or closed due a fault to its operating mechanism, yours apparently is open allowing heat from the heater matrix to pass into the cab, plus if the climate control isn’t functioning correctly you can’t direct the air to any other vents.

If yours is system is manual and non climate controlled then the issues with the dampers are mechanical so easier although appear to be a bit fiddly to deal with and shown in the work shop manuals😊

Well it means it won't work, don't switch it on until you are sure it IS gassed. Why the heck did he not get it done? Any proof he's telling the troof?

Why would you fit a brand new AC system and not fill it?
Doesn't sound right
