Disco 2 Why is a Diff Lock Lever Kit so Expensive?

I have wondered about that too. £200 from some suppliers - but only seems to have about £15 of low-tech materials. It is basically a very simple bit of kit that should be costing about £50 by my reckoning.

You can get a brand new gear lever for about £30, which I think is more complicated.

Finding 1 in a breakers yard might be difficult and will be like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

Thanks, I will ask JamesMartin .... (that's a bit strange to me, as my best friend is called James Martin lol)

I would also be interested. Can the lever from a Disco 1 be used easily then?
yes ,you just swap the td5 gear box top and transfer box hi/low housing plus linkage for the d1 type it just bolts on ,it costs little if you have access to the parts ,quite expensive if you bought as new parts

I PM'd james, thanks for your reply.

Thanks for everyone else input too, its very greatly appreciated.

So, I was having a think over the weekend, the difflock lever just moves to the left, pulls a cable, which moves an arm about 45 degrees (give or take a bit).

The price of a D2 difflock is too expensive, and using parts from a D1 seems like a lot of work.

So, I have started to design my own diff lock. Hopefully I will have it done by xmas :)

Thanks :)
