Why are free landers known as gay landers?? (this should be fun)

Well, I'm not really keeping count, but repairs on our ten-year-old TD4 are less than a grand, whereas in five years I spent £5,000 on my old 90, and in two years I've spent £2,000 on my 110. That works out as a grand a year for my Defenders and just £100 on the Freelander... And the TD4 is the highest mileage of the lot!

(Mind you, the three-year-old Puma 90 that Mrs Blip has cost us a tenner for a wing mirror, which means it has cost us £3.33 a year so far... though a new fuel tank and wiper regulator were replaced on warrantee)

Add to the equation cheaper tyres, better fuel economy and I don't know how you can say Freelanders are more expensive to run!

All Land Rovers break but every model has some charm so you just think "oh you" and set about mending it and getting along with it and it becomes part of the family.

The Freelander has no charm, it's just a car, a fridge, white goods. So when it is unreliable which it will be, often, you just think how you made mistake and if you wanted a soft roader you would have been better buying almost anything else.

to keep up off road they are cheaper to run but to be as good offroad as an out of the box disco say 2k on parts. A disco is very good out of the box the freelander needs work to keep up off road!
 
why are they called gaylanders ................:D:D:D here goes

theyre so whimpy offroad im sure they were marketed for the felching ass bandits to commute from one gentlemans lavetory to another straight across hampstead heath

most the gaylanders i know of round this way are either owned by mobile hairdressers pensioners or those people of a bendy sore bum on a sunday morning persuasion

theyre plastic theyre gay and the petrol K series engine wont behave once it hits 80K miles when they start on the head gasket cravings like it were preggers or summot

and the fekkin doors fall off when they get wet :D:D:D:D:D

ok so in short...

a Freelander is a better bet than your honda CRV's Rav4's and the like

But a 200tdi disco would prob be a better bet :)

(Mind you i did like the pink SWB SerII)
 
The engine in our diesel Freelander is the best bit, the rest.... not so much.

I did take it off-road a few times, and it performed admirably, but the body ended up coming off the chassis - they are not built well, very lightweight.

The traction control means that the Freelander performs better offroad than most of its competitors, and the new model is far superior to the old one in every way (it's even better looking), but the lack of low range is really disappointing.



Having said all that, next to the Evoque, the Freelander looks extremely manly.
 
I was in the same boat what to get my wife.
I ended up getting an X Trail.
It didn't rattle, leak water inside or outside, the doors are still attached,it has diff lock, i'm 6 foot tall and can lay straight in the back, on the perfectly flat floor, it goes like the clappers, returns around 45mpg.
Its so nice I won;t drive it because it reminds me how much like a tractor my 110 is, haha
