Why are Defender Seats so expensive?

I'm looking for two front seats for my Defender, but am astonished by the price of the things!

They seem to be the most basic of seat of any vehicle, yet they demand such high premiums!

I can retro fit a set of Disco 3 seats (£150) in the Defender for less than a set of decent Defender seats (£200 plus), which will be loads more comfortable!

However, I want to keep originality, so that is a big no no.

Is eBay the only place to get them from, as they never seem to pop up on forums and there aren't any breakers around here that have Defenders in on any basis.

Any ideas?

They are expensive arent they:eek:

I can only assume that because Defenders last a long time, there will always be folk wanting to replace their seats, so they come at a premium price?

Supply and demand.
Second hand good ones are few and far between with lots of potential buyers hence the seller can ask a highish price.
Good second hand doors are the same.

I got new seat bases from Exmoor trim at a landy show for £50 each. Do one at a time to spread the cost. Then I found a new seat back on fleabay for £30.
Keep watching fleecebay as I also got a pair of perfect seats complete for £60 last year.

Fair points made.

I did consider going the re-trim route at one point, but then thought I would save the hassle n buy a pair of complete seats.

Think I will get mine re-trimmed then.

Cheers everyone!

are they?

I sold 2 the other day, with no seat base, for 50quid.... seemed the standard price on ebay that seats were going for..

still have a mint condition, complete, seat in the garage... mmm, might sell it on eBay!

Wow...you are talking near on 200 quid for a re-trim kit!

Unbelievable!
You might be right - I think I've put it to the back of my mind now, along with all the other ££££s I've spent on the bar-steward thing!

Sam's Trim does look good - will be paying them a visit when I get to the point of putting seats in my Series.
