Hi, hoping for a bit of advice. I've had my mk1 TD4 auto a few months, done a few thousand miles in it to bring it up to about 66k. Had the crankshaft pulley replaced in Nov but other than that it's been mostly ok.
Last week driving up the M1 I noticed a new sound coming from somewhere up front, sort of whirring/whining noise. Stepson reckons it sounds like quiet 'spokies' on a pushbike. I reckon it sounds more like a hand-cranked WW2 air raid siren before it's got up to speed... It hasn't got worse in 200 miles driving since then and you can easily drown it out with the stereo but obviously that's not a long-term solution.
Sound only starts from about 10mph when driving, nothing when stopped in P or N and revving engine (does come on when rolling downhill in N and revving). Increases in pitch with revs and changes accordingly when you change gear up or down. Only stops again when you come to a halt.
So - any ideas?? Thanks!
