Freelander 2 (LR2) Whirring noise.

Dear Chaps and Chapesses.
There's a component on the front of my Freelander 2 2009 2.2 which keeps on whirring away after the engine is off.Loud whirring when it's on as well...when I take the key out the whirring gets faster and then stops.Can't figure out what it is.Located immediately opposite the cooling fan just underneath main water hosepipe.
Nothing shows up on me mate's diagnostics.

BTW me mum stayed in Aberystwyth last week. She and her boyfriend had a nice time. Found the restaurants were pretty much booked out though - opened their search and ended up eating in a Caribbean restaurant for a couple of nights, curried lamb one night, curried goat the next - very nice anorl they recon :D
 
Coincidentally the same thing just started happening on my car the other day. It is a loud electronic type of noise. Ford your car also now judder a little when turning it off?

From the research I've done, and listened to the same noise on an YouTube video, it's the electronic throttle body.

Check it out. May be the same for you?

Possibly the throttle body gears are stripped. This happens because nobody ever thinks to clean the much out the manifold, which accumulates as part of the EGR process.

Replacement throttle body assemblies aren't that expensive, or difficult to fit, but make sure that no nuts are dropped into the boost pipes, or they get into the engine, causing lot's of damage.
 
Apart from the whirring noise and slight judder when stopping the car, everything seems normal other than that.

Is it OK to carry on using it as it is? Will it damage anything? Will it get slowly worse over time to the point it's un-driveable until replaced?

At guess, the throttle butterfly isn't being moved correctly, as the gears are likely slipping (causing the noise).

It's very possible that it could leave you stranded, as if the throttle butterfly was to stick closed, then it'll block off the air intake to the engine.

It's best to have the throttle body checked and replaced ASAP.
