sorry if this has been covered upteen times already!
My 2000 Freelander has developed a whining noise when I'm at constant speed or freewheeling. The best way I can describe it, is it sounds a bit like an underground train when it stops. Since it started happening it hasn't got any worse.
I paid for one LR garage to tell me it's practically everything in the transmission (which would cost £3300 or £5000 if I need a new prop).
Someone else told me it's the IRD.
It could well be the IRD but as that's an expensive route I'd rather be certain before I go down it.
What are the symptoms of an IRD problem?
(I am non-technical so cannot do any mechanical self-diagnosis).
The coincidence is that the noise started after I changed the back tyres?!
Any help would be appreciated...
