i fookin love mine loads of power great sound and pulls like a fookin steam train.
must admit was'nt sure when i was looking but all the late 300tdi's were fookin extortionate priced for the ages ,could have just about run to a early tdci trani engine 1 (fookin glad i did'nt )
as its used for work it gets serviced and extended warranty paid for by the firm i have no worries about the leccys on it (or any of the drive train for that matter)

probably feel differant if i had to , but if it skips a beat its on the dog'n'bone to the stealers asap i had a front diff break up on me 2 weeks after the manfactorers warranty ran out , only drama i had was they wanted copies of my service records to show the oils had been changed as per scedule.
took them 10 days to replace it (none in stock in lr parts) but the last few days it was gone when i needed it had a 59 plate on loan (god i was glad to have the td5 back after that pile of crap)

if you can run to it go for a later year 1 as they have improved on some of the faults of the earlier 1's ;)

Hello,

Luckily for you, you are faced with a choice. You can get a 90 / 110 / 130 with a whole range of different engines, each manufactured by Land Rover. The options are:

2.5 Naturally Aspirated Diesel (12J)
2.5 Turbo Diesel (19J)
2.5 Turbo Diesel Intercooled (200 TDi)
2.5 Turbo Diesel Intercooled (300 TDi)
2.5 5 Cylinder Diesel (TD5)

Avoid the top two engines if you have any sense about you (they're ancient, under powered and don't compare with the newer engines), and go for either a 200TDi or an early 300TDi (without fly-by wire throttle). Although the TD5 is essentially an even newer engine still and with the added benefit of a fifth cylinder, it'll be more of a ball ache in the long run and they were plagued with problems, specifically cylinder heads that had been manufactured with cavities / pores that lead to complete cylinder head failure, no warranty replacement from Land Rover and a very expensive cost of anything between £1000 to £17000 new. Not only that, but you'll want your own diagnostic system to plug into it every week when the ECU decided to play up with the damp / cold weather. The 200TDi / 300TDi engines are very simple, reliable and powerful engines with no fancy electronics, that will do you well. Just make sure that it's well serviced and it'll be good for well over 350,000 miles without needing any major attention.

You need to be concentrating on the bulkhead and chassis just as much as the engine. There's no point buying a landy thats rotten if it's going to snap in half
