I expect this has been discussed many times, but here we go... I have been rustproofing the chassis, and now I have come to the rear shock absorber mounts, which were an advisory last MOT because of surface corrosion. So as I will be taking off the old shocks (which have been there at least 10 years) I thought I might as well replace them. I can see that OEM ones are available, and also Terrafirma for about the same cost. The old girl is still on her air suspension. Should I just replace like for like with the OEM shockers, or go for the Terrafirma shocks. I must admit I would like a little more sharpness and less wallowing around the twisty country lanes. Will I get that just by going with new OEMs, or ... or... What have others found?

terrifermas were hideous on mine, oddly the britpart cheapies are quite good.

but for the best bilstein or koni the latter if you can even still find them..

Thanks for your replies - very useful. I am reluctant to spend out on the Bilsteins at the moment as I have had to buy quite a few parts recently, but would if they are really going to make such a difference over OEMs. I don't want to lose the wonderful wafting ride of the EAS, which is so comfortable over long distances.

The terrafirma are very slow on the return.
They will add to the wafty feel.

Thanks for all replies - have decided to go with OEM shocks, partly because I have never ridden in another P38, and the shocks on there have been since we bought her ten years ago. It will be interesting to see what improvement they make. Perhaps in the future I will consider other options.

Now I just need to undo the top bolt... It seems to be a 17mm and is stuck fast despite lots of penetrating oil. I don't want to round off the edges.
