I am in the market for a new rear door. I have already replaced all of my other doors (split door) with galv framed versions from SP panels. I am now looking for what the best option is for a rear door.

First question is later style one piece door or older style two piece, I have only ever had the older style previously?

There look to be different options for the older style, galvanised frame is a must but then can either get an ali skin or a galv steel skin, which would people choose?

Finally what supplier would people recommend, I have only used SP but know there are other options

How’s it going mate. I replaced both my front doors with SP panels ones. All good I have to say. For my rear door I went with paint man panels. Got my paint from them too. I bought the rear door from them as I was fair impressed with the quality of it. Don’t think SP had one at the time which is why I went with paint man. Door was a perfect fit and the workmanship was high quality. All my other parts such as hinges and lock, glass etc fitted straight on with no mods needed.I had to mark and cut the holes for the spare wheel carrier myself. Price for it was fair I thought. This company also offer a tech helpline if your stuck. Paint I got from them was the best I’ve ever used too just in case your painting soon. Any questions just ask. If you want closer pics I’ll get a couple in daylight tomorrow. 👍

What about the choice between a galvanised skin or the original Aluminium skin on a galv frame. Which is the better choice?

Get a galvo frame and wrap it with thin plastic or heat it up a bit and spray it with plastikote.
Then skin it with aluminium.

I went for galv skin the same as my front doors

And this is why I am asking! My other doors are galv frame with a bonded Ali frame that came fully built from so panels. I would be looking to get a rear door fully built as well. But don’t know what the advantage/disadvantage of Ali vs galv steel for the door skin. Assume the steel is heavier.

What ever door I get will get seam sealed, painted and pumped full dinitrol, before being fitted with a swing away and chequer plate door card.

I'm going to get a new back door.

I will be buying the box section hot dipped one, with an alloy skin.

I don't rate the electroplated steel stuff really.

That I had not considered the fact they miss sell things and call plated galv as well. I am in the same position unless sits hot dipped it is not going to do the job!

No thin sheet is ever dipped (so far as I know) as the distortion would be crazy.

I got my bulkhead dipped and that's thicket than door skins and still bends a bit. A door skin would be crazy.

There was a company a while back that was talking about dipping the pressed puma style rear door but they never came back with their results, so, I'm guessing, it didn't work out so well.

So, yeah, for me - welded frame (as the pressed ones are all just electro plated) and an alloy skin.
