On my second set of TF HD on the rear. Cheap and cheerful, okay on coils but don’t seem to go so well with airsprings.
Have ancient yellow ones on front, don’t know what they are but must be good quality due to fact they are still in one piece as I’ve never changed them

But they were yellow I promise

Ultimately, what do you use your p38 for?

If it is just normal road use, then I suspect almost any standard replacement shock will be perfectly fine. And I also suspect most people would not be able to tell one brand from another. Let's also not forget that in most cases people replace worn out shocks with new items. So, regardless of make, the new ones will always ride better.

If you are building the vehicle for off roading, then a longer shock will give you more suspension travel. Which will translate into a more stable vehicle off road and less lifting of wheels from the ground. But longer shocks will need the rest of the suspension to support the additional travel.

I've done the same and 2years down the line (touch wood) no problems and ride is smooth

No Mike,top mounting bolt is accessed from the wheel arch, think you have to remove the liner it's been a long time since I did mine.17mm head from memory;)

It's not been to bad mate once the Bosses supply of paint and wallpaper ran out:rolleyes: just booked a trippet to Fuerteventura for three weeks, we'll spend the first two cleaning up as we haven't been there for nearly a year:eek: Had photos sent me and we've lost a few bushes and trees in the garden because I had to let the gardener go as he was becoming forgetful and leaving the hose pipe on for weeks.A €70 water bill went up to nearly€500 for two months:mad: Take care;):)
 
TerraFirma Gas shocks installed now and... I am THRILLED! P38 has been completely transformed. Used to have to hustle with the car, especially if driving in a "spirited" fashion, turning into bends early, to compensate for the vague steering. Now the steering is much more direct, the lurching about under braking and extreme lean angle whilst cornering have all been tamed. The mechanic was like a "whirling dervish", with me driving away in under an hour after he started the job and with my wallet only £50 lighter. Should have changed them when I bought the car nearly five years ago! Purchased the shocks from Maltings 4x4, Woodmanside near Doncaster; £121 for the set of four and nice people to deal with.

The only other thing I would recommend is to upgrade the front anti roll bar bushes to poly ones, the best you can afford. Make sure the washers on the shock bottoms are fitted in a way as to not clash with the washers on the axle.

and actual terrafirma info sheet.
The reason being that if the axle is put into a cross axle state the cups can break the lower studs off and in recent years of bad welding the whole shock is replaced under warranty... Ask me how I know ;)
 
Hi Mark and thanks for your comments. I'll pop round and "bounce" (pun intended) this off the mechanic that installed them.
I had the front anti roll bar bushes replaced with "poly" ones some time ago, along with the front damper too.
It's comments and advice like yours that makes this Forum so successful...and essential membership for those of us less mechanically/technically experienced Landy owners.
