Which Land Rover to tow a lightweight caravan

Hi All

I currently own a little Suzuki Jimny, I do like it to be fair :-/ but I have now bought a classic Eriba Caravan and although it is very light (as caravans go) the Jimny struggles with it up long steep inclines on the motorway or if trying to pull out quickly at junctions.

So I'm now thinking of a Land Rover ;-)

I've always loved the Defender, but my wife's not so keen on them I think :-( so it might have to be a Discovery.

As I'm new to this, could anyone advise on which models might suit best or which I should a avoid.

We have the back seats out of the Jimny and have a boot liner for the dogs, so not much need for rear seats to be used often If at all and to be fair I don't plan on going on any serious off road days etc, but as we park our car at the bottom of a very steep car park and don't care to get stuck in the snow a 4X4 suits best oh I also like the driving position too.

Cheers, yes I have a feeling that any of the models/displacements will more than do the towing job easily.

I'm just not sure which model will suit my needs best :-/
Hmmmm I have a feeling I better go drive one or two to find out.

They're all pretty good but they all have their issues do a bit of research and don't be too scared of the horror stories.look carefully and personally I would buy from a dealer you pay more but you've got somewhere to take it back to if it's a turkey.happy hunting.the chaps on Here will advise and abuse you throughout your search.

Lol, Thor I think that could be the main point ;-)
My budget is around the £4000 area.
Yes, I think a dealer bought vehicle might be the way to go, I've found a local (4miles away) family run Land Rover specialist so I'll probably pop over to see them for a chat/look/test drive.

Do let us know which dealer you are thinking of, there's an independent specialist round our parts that sells less than optimal vehicles shall we say...

I was going to have a trip over to T and T Motors.
Do you have a recommended dealer to visit?

you wont want a 90 to pull an eriba, its a sledghammer to crack a walnut , and 4K wont get you much . Better off looking at a discovery , best bang for the buck , even a freelander would do the job , but would want to be a diesel. They dont have a low range tho , the auto is better with steep terrain . HTSH

Ahhh yes I can see what you're saying :-/
I have a feeling. Freelander would actually do the job and suit my needs. I can't get the industrially beautiful Defender out of my mind though :-(

I do love well built things :-/

TD4 will do the job, you might find a 3 door commercial more to your pocket too

The Eriba will tow very nicely behind anything mentioned, being a pop-top. I have a elderly Sprite Compact, and with the top down it is just about the same height as my Rangie. Makes for a lovely stable economical tow. the Eriba is a bit taller, but more aerodynamic.

Get whichever vehicle you fancy, forget about the towing (as long as its a LR)

Just wanted to check in.
I've not made a purchase yet, but I've been to a local Land Rover Specialist to have a look and I purchased a famous Land Rover Mag today too ;-)
.........still hankering after a Defender though :-//

Freelander td4 auto. Dead easy to tow with. Nice car for other use as well. You won't even know the eriba's on the back.

I've got a 110 which will tow pretty much anything but if I need to go a long way I'm very tempted to take the wife's Volvo estate. Auto, leather, leccy everything, and the thing only cost 500 quid.
