Disco 2 Which Front Wheel Bearing?

The 3 amigos are on and it would appear that both front wheel bearings need replacing. Original landrover ones cost an absolute fortune. OEM are about £120 and then there are aftermarket ones. One company sell them for £65 and reckon they are as good as OEM. Britpart are about £60. As i'm having to replace 2 and pay for them to be replaced, I cannot really afford genuine or oem. Can anyone suggest cheaper alternatives that are proven? Thanks.

Are you sure it is the front wheel bearings? 3 Amigos don't always indicate only a wheel bearing (hub) problem It could just be an ABS sensor problem...Unless you are absolutely sure, you might be better to find a friend with a Nanocom of Hawkeye to get the codes read and identify which hub is causing the problem.

Thanks, Tony. Have had sensor replaced twice. Thought first one was dodgy - britpart. When replaced a second time (after 2 weeks), end was chewed up. Mechanic had car up on ramp today and found excessive play in both front wheels.

Those named OEM by britpart are a bit more expensive than other aftermarkets cos at least they have genuine WABCO sensors fitted that's the difference, those ''as good as OEM'' might be with the same sh*t bearings but with some sh*t sensor too... as long as it's not the expensive genuine LR with Timken bearings it becomes a lottery but you have the advantage to change them both and at least there will be a certain 'balance' in readings on that axle... just make sure before fitting that they have 60 teeth on the reluctor ring cos there are cheap aftermarkets with 55 and that will completely mix up the TC

OK, that explains it then, but do check as Fery says that the replacements you buy have the 60 teeth, otherwise you will have all sorts of problems.
