I need to replace the battery on my disco 1. It's been sat on the drive waiting for the end of the summer (i work in events) and I'm about to start a major overhaul as my season finishes and before it goes travelling with me.

In the mean time the battery has gone totally dead (It's v old and knackered) and I can't open the doors!! I've gained access to the bonnet and need to replace the battery so I can get into the car and begin work. In time I'm planning on putting a winch and split charge system in. I've got space on the passenger side for the second battery but I'm wondering what batteries to go for. I've got a snorkel fitted but obviously there is limited space by the air box.

Is it best to have two of the same battery and if so what are peoples reccomendaitons given the limited space on the other side? Unfortuntately I don't have a tape measure so can't give the size of the 3nd battery space but will measure this tomorrow. I've read many people saying put the biggest battery you can in the standard tray but will it matter if I have two different sizes/specs of battery installed?

Personally I can recommend optima batteries. Got a red and yellow top. Both have been sat in the garage for a year until I bought my new disco and the red top still started the disco after being sat that long.

The yellow top is still just as good as when I put it away too. Although have to wait until I rip out the air con and fit a 2nd alternator before I fit it.

Yes same battery is recommended but not essential tbh. I found the batteries from euro carparts to be fine lion I think, as a real budget option. I had one on my rrc with a leisure battery . They were different ah but always worked great. Got me out of a hole when I drained one battery with a flooded engine.

I'm sure someone on here will know the ins and outs of but there are certain battery's that can be mounted in any rotation, on its side, upside down.
