I can order stick on ones .. only prob is I need your original documents, cant accept faxes/photocopies (GAY V L A rulez)

ohh damn that would be awesome, but im near swansea :(
I have managed to get a sticky reflective one at the moment, mate bought it for his 90 and never bothered, Ive just gotta get numbers to go on it now! thanks!

i got told stick on ones were now illegal by a plate shop. found somewhere in the end does them tho.

ye im nearly 100% sure the stick on ones are illegal as they arent regulated properly. I did have one on my bonnet but every other truck seems to have them now so i wanted something different :crazy_driver:, im saving up for a G4 style roof rack and the plate will be bolted to the front of that

As long as the plate has the following
-the standard typeface
-the correct spacing
-the correct reflective Nikkalite material
-the suppliers name & postcode
-the BSAU standard code

its legal

They're still legal, if they were fitted before 2001.
Who's to know how long it's been on there?

I'm told DVLA also added a recent requirement for the face of the plate to be vertical, as they found ANPR cameras can't catch them properly at an angle such as stuck to front of bonnet. (wot a shame:D)

I thought they always have had to be upright, although no one, Police or MoT man seems to bother.
I seem to remember someone in the sixties pointig out that E-types were leaving the factory with illegal plates!
BTW, welcome back Ghost.

It was always my impression I was being slightly naughty by running around with my plate stuck to the bonnet, but as it was on there when I bought the motor and I don't really have anywhere else to stick it I've just left it as is, seems to be ok so far!

It's still clearly visible and easily read from the front which is the most important issue I imagine, so if you're a little bit lax with the angle it shouldn't matter.

People have been doing it for years, and I've never heard of anyone being done for it, but if you do start discussing it with Mr Mot or Mr Plod, it's best to remember you are in the wrong, and don't push things!

I thought it had to be vertical and on the first vertical part of the vehicle - ie on the roof bar or in the windscreen not allowed as it's not the FIRST vertical part.

I may have been mis-informed though.

I thought the same thing, but wasn't sure, so didn't want to suggest it. That would make mounting it below the grill on a Series, rather than on the bumper, is wrong.
Mind you, until they moved the headlights, Series IIs (and Ones) usually had then on the front wing rather than the bumper.
