Gents-
Replacing standard shocks and springs tomorrow and I would like advice on the best position for the axle stands ON THE CHASIS.

Current thinking is-

  • two SPREAD OUT on the protection bar which sits just behing the engine oil drain plug (front)
and rear
  • where the radius arm bolts onto chassis
Let me know if any better ideas to avoid bloody mess on drive.

no point in jacking on radius arms if he wants to change springs, support or jack if suitable jack available on chassis near radius arm brackets one wheel station at a time using another jack to support axle ,and a small bottle jack between axle and chassis to press axle down enough to get spring out/in,unclip sensor wire from brake hose ,hose can be left ,dont need to remove turret at front, its allways safer doing one at a time with vehicle chocked

Starting at the rear I was intending to jack up the vehicle at the bottom of the radius arm, just high enough to get the stands in on the chassis rails adjacent. The rear axle would also be sitting on bottle jack and hydraulic jack each end and lowered accordingly to replace shock and spring.

Ensuring low ratio, chock & brakes applied. Maybe put the wheels under for good measure.

The front similar.

Does this sound ok or am I likely to cause damage????????????????

Your right safety first-

so one corner at a time-

REAR
  • lift d2 up by radius arm and fit one axle stand on the radius arm mount/chassis.
  • loosen wheel nuts and put hyd jack under axle- lift wheel and remove.
  • loosen bottom bolt of shock and lower axle
  • If spring will not fall use spring compressors or bottle jack between axle and bump stop.
Am I getting the jist?

You are talkin to 3 spanner haynes man.

Managed one corner at a time but struggled to get the springs out.

Grinder and spring compressors proved useful.

Apart from that its like driving a new vehicle with new springs and shocks.

Used allmakes springs and terrafirma shocks standard.

Thanks for assisstance.
