I have just given my 200 a good run and im a bit worried about the temp gauge. It gets up towards the top of the white bit, not over it but near the top. It doesnt seem to go further but i was under he impression these are cool running engines. Is this normal or have i got problems here? The fan works, i think the stat is out but not 100% on that, the is no air in the system that i can tell although my heaters dont get warm in the slightest!

i would say check the stat first if not one in there put one in , cheap and simple to do

just to add ..... is your rad ok

Yeah i think rad is fine, its warm all over so cant see an issue. I will check the stat but if its not there i dont know why it would affect the overheating. Like i sai im not sure if it is overheating or if its just running warm, where should the needle be sitting?

Mine sits about 1/3 of the way up the gauge, couples of others I know do as well as well as one which tends to sit at about halfway.

does your fan need a good hosing down?

rad too?

Its all clean under there, no mud e.t.c. built up... It all seems good thats whats so confusing... It takes a while to warm p which is what made me think the stats not there, it may be its stuck half way, gonna let it cool down and give it a check i think... Maybe a k-seal thrown in as well...

OK first what engine is it you say 200tdi is that a defender genuine one or a disco one been fitted. If its the latter then its likley the person doing the conversion was not the best person. The sender and guage need to match if its a disco engine then the sender and guage are mismatched. Go to steve parker and order the correct type sender with the correct thread as there is coarse and fine.

If its a genuine 200tdi you have to check your rad as said.

I just thought this, its a disco one i believe so maybe the sender sends a different signal? Is it the norm to read hotter does anyone know? Havent got an external temp gauge at home to check although i could run tescos and get on i suppose (cheap food one maybe)

Yes it reads as you say hot on the verg of the white. Best bet would be to measure the resistance to double check or for the cost of it £7 posted just get as new one.

Poor conversion if they skimped on £8 what else have they saved money on..................

jon its defo not overheating, as jai says its an issue with the sender and gauge from the conversion, mine sits just below the white line even after i bought a sender from steve parker, get vdo gauge mate you now exactly whats going on.

Normal is just below halfway mine sits about halfway but the rad is restricted slightly and quite old. Make sure you get the correct sender for your guage give steve parker your reg assuming the guages are from that year

Im a bit happier now, wish i checked when i was at me garage, its confusing the hell out of me as i was checking everything and it was all ok, after the disco fiasco in sailsbury i watch the gauge like a hawk! Gonna get me another gauge to match the fuel and the rev counter, just need a nicer speedo now!

My heaters are still crap though, not even slightly warm!

stuck td5 heaterbox and matrix in mine last week now the heater is nice and toasty;)

Fit a proper graduated gauge [temp displayed in degrees c] with matched sender available for about forty tokens and see what temp really is.
