where are these disco prices coming from

I can see Disco 1 & 2 prices at least holding if not rising, after all if you need sucha vehicle (mine tows a 2 horse trailer) there are few alternatives. Disco 3 & 4 are out for most people as the maintenance costs are just daft.

I even think if LR starting making the TD5 again (galvanised chassis please) they would actually find plenty of buyers who wanted a comfortable and practical 4 x 4 without stupid maintenance costs.

would I be incorrect in thinking that the LR are still making 300tdi engines for the export market?
I know it's not the most powerful, smooth or sophisticated engine but as we all agree it is very reliable on the whole and quite easy to maintain!

I know my missus has a 1.9td Saab 93 (120 hp) that ****es all over the disco in so many ways (18,000m service interval for one!) but all the bits are expensive and I don;t know how well it would do lugging around the weight I quite often drag about with mine.

I guess a bit like the classic range rovers the Disco 1's that have had the money spent on them and are in fairly good standard(ish) order are going to hold their value really well. I know mine does better mileage than the 1.8 mondeo estate that belongs the Analyst that works for me!

Long live the Disco 1

Thought I paid slightly over the odds. But who cares. I love the fact that parts are relatively cheap and for the home mechanic, simple easy to get to, and work on. Not like my previous car Jag xj8. Nice drive but when I lost gearbox oil. price from Jag was £140 a Ltr. Managed to find a jag workshop that gave it me for £100 quid. Needed 5 Ltrs My god I didn't know what hit me. In the end It was nothing more than a Ford. Sold it and got my disco. Loving it. If you spend £500 on this and you see loads for you money. In winter there sort after because of snow. Winter and Summer people want them for green laning. Lots more people are getting into green laning and apart from Fender Disco is next choice. So always a call for them. Plus being cheaper than Fender.

Laughing at this thread the old man part ex'd a p reg tdi300 on a disco 3 got it for a good price and had a good price on part ex. His tdi 300 was low mileage for year and all rust sorted non molested clean. dealer put it up for £2795. On web site wasn't on ther a week sold. The old man loves his d3 but talking to my old dear he wish he bought a d2 td5 like mine as his d3 drinks like a fish and he cant touch it as computers are the devil (he is an old school gaffer tape or big hammer mech). He still tels me best buy he has ever had! yet mum say's he is ****ed off but won't admit it:p

I've just been hunting for TD5s, and I've gotta say I kept finding deep in the depths of an autotrader search, 300's going for £3995 - £4995!!

Wtf :D

well paid £1000 for mine and this is how it looked when I got it:

8 months on and £1600 spent on repair, welding, and off road bits this is how it looks now. Has changed since this pic, now has winch bumper and winch, and clear indicators

So ok mine stands me at £2600. Would I ever see that again if I sold it don't think so

There are good ones out there, just not easy to find amongst all the sheds.
That just about sums it all up,makes me think that my 300 auto with 192,000 on the clock is worth keeping.I did the boot floor and rear arches 2 years ago,but the front inner wings are dying now.(Dead actually)
But its SO RELIABLE,and does all I want it to,just poor fuel consumption letting it down. But the cost of replacing it with a 4wd of whatever type that is anywhere near as capable puts me off.(There arent any....)For a sensible sum with depreciation in mind.
So all I've done is to spend £150 buying a 53 plate Suzuki Alto,(50mpg,£30 tax) for running around,Disco does all the towing, firewood, long family trips where space is needed, and carrying/towing trials bikes - most important of the lot.
The Disco now has a rest from ferrying children around and other light duties, only working when it needs to.

i paid £750 for my 96/97 yet to be confirmed jap imported discovery v8i es. 11 months mot, 5 months tax. theres major scratches on the bonnet, needs a nearside mirror, the drivers window doesn't work, needs a front bumper and the diff lock lever doesn't operate (soon to be sorted) full leather and it drives lovely.

How much!!

Mine is in around the same outside condition, just a little worse from what i can see but with worse interior, same age etc etc and it cost me £1500

£37,995.00 is the cheapest discovery 4 base model un reg'd

you could buy 26 at your price,:D

but you could fix all 26 yourself! 1 discovery 4???:confused: no good!!

Also, twisted as it might sound, I reckon the recession could be pushing the prices of tdi disco's up. What other 4x4 of that size will give you 40+ to the gallon? And a DIY/home mechanic can fix and service them with basic tools, so less reliance on the garage and their hefty bills. Road tax is even cheaper than it is for newer 4x4's.

Dont sound in no way twisted...its logic Mr Spock:clap2:

I'm getting an average of 42 out of mine. Was about 41 before I blanked the EGR. I'm hoping to get more when I fit a decat exhaust. I do about 400 - 500 miles a week. 350 of those are motorway, where I keep it below 60mph. The rest is rural driving and I don't go very fast! I just let it get up to speed in its own time.

Mine has been de-egr'd, and de-cated. Its running, 33x12.5x15 mud tyres, +2" lift, winch and winch bumper, steering guard. So good mpg's are long gone lol. even as standard the 300tdi only managed 30-32mpg
