My pre Defender 110 still has the 3 ribbed roof on it but I was wondering when they stopped. Was it in '91 when they actually started marketing them as Defenders?
When did the ribbed roof stop on Defenders?

Ribbed for her pleasure apparently.
My hardtop didn't have the ribs on the outside and that was, I believe, from a 1993 fender.
My current truck cab on the other hand does and it looks quite newish.

My 1991 Defender hasn't, so I think you've got the date about right.

Same with my old one. I think the old external ones were replaced with internal strengthening instead
Yeah perhaps I should have been more clear, what I meant was mine didn't have external ribs. I think there was internal ones under the roof lining.

AFAIK it was as it swapped from being a 90 to a defender wasnt it??

The roof was changed from external ribs to internal ribs on the 1989 Model Year - so, from late 1988 onwards.
My 'G' Reg. 110 Hardtop, which I bought new in October 1989, has an internally ribbed roof.
They changed back to small external ribs, at some point during TD5 production.

I reckon my truck cab is off a TD5, I'm sure that's what the guy at the garage said, and I've got external ribs but they're not overly prominent

My 91 200tdi had ribbed roof, it had been resprayed though so may not have been the original roof...

Chopped the sides
never chopped the roof!That sounds about right, mine was a late "F" reg (just before the G came out) and had the smooth roof. I remember reading before I took delivery of mine that they were changing.
