Hi,
Are there part numbers for those spacers that go in between the inner and outer wheel bearings on the TD5 axles? (Defender).
Land Rover manual lists the various sizes that are to be used dependant on the end float measured by dial gauge after tightening up lock nut. I can't seem to find much info on them.

Thanks in advance.

personally, id set bearings with a slight preload if new ,mot people arent keen on play
tof100000 15.5mm
tof100010 15.4
tof100020 15.3
tof100030 15.2
tof100040 15.1
tof100050 15.0
tof100060 14.9

Brilliant. Thanks for the response. I'm not in your part of the world and even though my "mot" equivalent is not as strict as yours you are absolutely correct.

I am installing new bearings hopefully tomorrow. The last couple times I adjusted the current worn ones if I drew the locking nut tight the hubs would becomes a little too stiff to turn freely. I thought with the spacers present that shouldn't happen.
I'll see how the adjustment goes with the new bearings.

hubs should turn freely, but theres is added resistance, but should be easy to turn, no free play is the thing to aim for, the previous method of 2 nuts was a simpler way

Managed to replace the bearings on the front passenger side after determining they were the worst. With the new bearings I was able to tighten the lock nut fully and still acheive a freely spinning hub.

Will tackle the other side tomorrow. Thanks for the info as usual.

The spacer variation is there due to the variance in the machining of the hubs during manufacture. You'll probably find that your new wheel bearings are made to a much better tolerance than 0.1mm and so the original spacer will do the job fine in the same hub in most cases.

Just picking up on this very old through,

How do I find out what the correct width spacer would be for my Defender 2005 TD5?
I replaced the drivers side bearings and it had the spacer and one hub nut to do it all up. But on doing the passenger side there is a two nut set up, and no spacer.
Seeing as I've done the drivers side already, I thought I'd match the passenger side by putting in a spacer (new bearing kits have the single nut for my 2005 TD5).
