Whats this hidden in the front wing ?

Noticed a little fire damage near the airbox today, the airbox is damaged, the air filter is slightly burned, the power steering resevoir is partly melted and the wires going to this mystery part are slightly melted.

What i want to know is what is this part hidden in the circular hole with the wires going to it? Thanks for the help.

looks like vacumn pump for cruise control.

Aha! Sherlock.. Do you know, if there is any illumination or light on the dash that lights up when the cruise control button is pressed.. Havent got the caron the road yet, worried in case its damaged as the wires caught some heat. Many thanks.

Well the motorway button for the cruise con lights when pressed but the buttons on the steering wheel dont do anything, it dont work.

buttons on the steering wheel will only work when moving from what I remember

Cruise control on mine worked then failed, I found it was the hoses going from the Vacuum pump to engine which then tees off to go inside drivers compartment near the brake servo, just havent got around to changing it yet. Peobably wont change it as im looking at a range rover this week.
