What's the curved metal plate in with the tools for?

As in the title, there is a curved metal plate in with the jack etc.
What's it for, I can't see it mentioned in the handbook.
 
It's a wheel chock. Important for changing a wheel as transmission handbrake becomes inoperative once wheel is lifted off the ground.

If you're jacking up the rear axle, you should also use difflock so that the handbrake then acts on the front axle and has some effect. Doesn't negate the need for the wheel chock though :)

difflock means the front axle is locked by hand brake in the same way rear is as normal
