What's the best penetrating fluid?

Now I've got the impact wrench I'm a bit lazy about using penetrating oil. If the nut and bolt can be replaced I just rattle them off and it doesn't matter if they snap. In years gone by I used to crawl around under the car on Friday nights oiling everything so it would be ready to unscrew on Saturday.

Not too bad, in my experience. Most of them seem OK. My girlfriend buys lots of that sort of thing for her nails and I've given it a try. I've got one or two Colin Furze tendencies so I've also applied a lighted match to the spray, which is really impressive.
 
Folks in the US of A go on about a brand called kroil that is apparently good.

If you ever get to see Kroon Oil pump action MoS2 penetrating oil I can recommend that above anything starting with "WD" or any of the other cheaper varieties

Ok carry on. But strong solvents like Acetone or fast thinners containers other than metal have to be Nylon or it will eat them.
 
Yes, maybe there's some nylon in the mix. For long term storage it stays in the manufacturers containers, but the spray bottles seem OK as temporary dispensers. It's alright for just playing around at home, but obviously if I were running a commercial workshop we'd have to be a lot more stringent. In fact I'd probably have to sack myself.

yeah me to, i have got in the habit of buying new fixings now, got in the habit from my VW days.
i brought a clarke 240v impact thing, its fierce. nothing has beaten it yet.
I had an old mount for a large piece of scientific equipment, it had 3 bolts for levelling the base, probably whatever the imperial version of m12 is, they had been encased in concrete and outside since the late 1950's - i just buzzed them off, except it didn't undo the bolt it just turned the threads out of the mount..... which was fine.
 
Yes, I try and replace as many nuts and bolts as I can while I'm working these days. The time I must have spent lovingly rehabilitating old ones when I was young. Wire brushing, running dies down threads congested with rust and old paint, picking up discarded nuts and bolts off the ground in scrapyards in the hope that they'd come in useful one day. I even used to buy job lots of secondhand ones off a firm called K.R. Whiston in New Mills, Stockport. Long gone now of course.
Nowadays for safety or stress critical areas I just order them by part number when I get the bits and pieces for a job, or for non critical areas I get a bag of 50mm by M10 or whatever from Ebay or Screwfix.

I do miss all the threads you used to get. Whit., BSF, UNF, UNC, BA, and all the odd ones that were specific to a particular manufacturer.
