Front and rear Axles for a 110 Salisbury rear both 4.7 ratio rare as rocking horse and I was on the look out for something similar for a while. I got them for the sum of 99p on Ebay did have to go up to birken head tho. Now fitted to my mota and lovley

my bargain of a life time was me old 83 v8 110 csw i got it for nuffing as the chap was moveing house and needed it shifting quick its got 76k on the clock and inside is nai on mint apart from the cobwebs needs new chassis hangers and rear cross member and possibly 1 tyre

Ok technically my 90 was free I had to remove the gearbox for the chap and the engine was in bits in the back but it was free

Topically, a mate of mine is knocking down a house to build a new one, and at the side of it it had a, not very old, plastic oil tank.

Wanting to replace my rusting steel one, I cheekily offered him £ 100. ( knowing that new it would have been about £ 300/400 ).

He agree,d but said there might be some old oil in it that I,d have to get rid of.

I went up there with the trailer, pikey pump and ten 20 lt drums, which to my amazment, I filled. Went back and filled a further 11 drums.

So thats 420 lts of heating oil , ( currently 60.9 pence a lt ),and nearly new oil tank all for £ 100.

Ive let the Mrs turn the heating up a bit now. ( well its nearly Christmas !! ).

Del.

What's rare about them like?

I mean the front is not rare its probably a stock late (black carrier) Series III 10 spline diff. The rare bit was the rear axle that was appaently a factory fitted item specified by the first owner that was selling his bits to fit toyota axles. LR probably just threw in a series III front diff tbh.

4.7 turns of the pinion to one turn of the halfshaft. Standard Series Ratio.
3.5 turns of the pinion to one turn of the halfshafts. Standard ALL coil sprung models

Many a dodgy defender owner has replaced their rear diff for a cheapie from ebay to find its the wrong ratio! which is quite funny when it happens now and then!

In the most basic terms its kinda like 2nd gear is like 1st gear std. Third gear is like Second Gear std, Fourth is like third std and Fifth is like fourth std. Lower top end speed.
Lots more revs from th engine to achieve the same speed with normal tyres on.

Its like riding a bike you have gears on your pedals instead of using the big one and the one I'm using the low one (low range) and one inbetween the original big gear and the smaller one. Pedal like fook and go nowhere!
