ok then...thiking it would be nice to have abs...wondering what i will need..uprating diffs halfshafts etc soon so hubs etc would be no problem..just buy abs axles and swap bits over..??

what will i need?..where do the abs sensors mount?where do abs rotors mount?is the abs ecu independent or wired into everthing?abs pump..
speed sensor?mine is mechanical..etc..thanks.

looks simple in haynes pooh manual...problem i may have is i need to keep my original axle cases.no swaping of complete axles.

thats what i like ..positive critisium.;).(yes i cant spell..but automotive art ..yes..).if you seen what has been done to this thing, then you would realise i am serious and capable..sooooo

ok..rear axle would need to be modified to take sensor.and then use abs hubs and rotor ring.thats easy..next?

front axles look easy..abs cv and abs swivels and sensor

..abs plumbing easy..

remember all axles and diffs being striped for lsd's and hd shafts..i have to change lots as cant get 10 spline hd shafts.all i care about being original are axle cases..so while at it..

anyone got an abs wiring dia i can look at??

You did not spend your honeymoon stood up in a canoe did you? Don't think anybody mention you not being capable. If it gives you pleasure to play, go play. But it is a bloody big undertaking. But if your that capable why ask, just get on with it.:D:D:D

got manual now...simples...anyone scrapping 90's rangie?need some bits...

abs valve block, pump,mc and pedal box.. etc..

front and rear axles..afterall i need a pair of 24spline diffs anyway,so might as well get the rest, atleast i get all the bits i need that way..

abs ecu and relays including loom or most of loom if cant be arsed to strip it out properly...i hope its seperate like engine ecu loom??

thanks..london area,will collect..

ah posted same time!!cant be any bigger undertaking than putting silly engines in and rebuilding old 2 door outside (mainly)...yes i love playing..if i had land...oh my..

there a more serious reason for wanting abs..thats staying alive,it only needs to do its job once to be worth it..this car is getting abit ott with power ,i cant upgrade the brakes anymore..only way forward is abs..i can do it abit at a time anyway..ie sensors hubs etc while doing diffs and shafts.then wiring and ecu install, then finally hydrolics..atleast then down time would be quite minimal..
re being capable..wasn't getting sore, you dont know me or my work so wasn't getting at people, just stating in my grasp to do safley...

but always open to advice..thers always someone who knows more or who has done it..so i ask..

oh i feel out the canoe!lol

I thought about this but it does not fit with my 'zero electrics' policy :D

A more cost effective solution may be an awesome set of brakes?

I've gone down this route in the past and it is amazing what a difference best quality brakes can make and how much they reduce the liklihood of ever needing ABS.

i cant fit any bigger or fatter in my rims..already vented, grooved, drilled etc..maybe hydro boost...but i already can lock them at any speed...

you say zero electrics...so does that mean you gonna run carbs and points???

No :D

Engine electrics are acceptable. Just working hard to keep them out of the cabin and other places where possible.

I was going to add ABS but will hold off. It's going to get pretty big brakes. Big enough to need some bespoke alloys to fit over and still look like the original steels.

you dont need bigger..mine lock wheels at any speed..(but are uprated)..tyres are an issue..have the best ht's on her(almost at's,but more road going)..cant go more road biased or will be crap in the dirt.(read moutain roads in italy/france etc..)

abs..i think so...

follow this thread to see how goes...electrics are real simple really..seperate fuses off battery to keep reliable, ecu under seat or where ever..hydrolics are really really simple...do the axles while you upgrade them..as you will need to!!..ohhh want the days to get longer..supercharger ready to go on...

STOP!! Put yer knives away gents lol

Ok so I was reading an old copy of LRO dated 1995 (when I was still at school lol)

Anyway in there was an advert for akit to fit abs to you landy for £300, for the whole thing.

I know now it will cost more as inflation etc will take its toll but it was a complete universal kit designed to fit and you can keep all yer other bits just adding these.

It was after market not made out of ladrover bits. I made a note of it for my 72 but as zen keeps getting into fights about his welding ability :hysterically_laughi I will try and dig it out when I get back to work on the 4th to prevent anymore fistycuffs :p

If you like chasing faults every MOT, go ahead. In fact you can have the fully working ABS off mine! but only if you put a proper braking system back in it's place. The reason most are telling you NOOOOO.. is not because how hard it is to fit, but how hard it is to get working, and keep working. It is unlike any car ABS and is in fact intended for truck use.

And for off road use ABS is a toatal waste of time, there was a reason the old rally quattros had a button to turn it off!

why do people say this??same said about p38/late rrc eas and electrics..but its quite reliable really..all down to maintance..

can you be more specific please..what goes wrong and why please??

theres nothing to go wrong really on the abs system, its soo simple..so please elaborate..(by the way i work on trucks...commercial mechanic and autoelectrician..(and hydrolics.phematics...bloody everything it seems..gripe gripe.lol))

had discos (i know..hang head in shame..) they had abs..no problems with them...

so lets assume i am going to do it (as long as i can work out front swivel ball problem..need 6 hole ball with abs size top hole for rialko bush/abs sensor)..unless the system is really that crap???.if not then maybe not..just have to settle for 24 spline diffs and hd shafts..

thanks..
