Hello!

Wondering what this might be worth? We are wondering what to do with it at the moment.

It has 50k miles on it and had very little use. It's a bit tatty but otherwise sound.

give you 50quid and a packet of hob-nobs. a few of the hob nobs are broken, but are perfectly acceptable to be used for dunking into ones tea.

but since you are st johns.. stick it on ebay and flog it for as much as you can get. or create an auction event?

Damn! Hate tuna!

We are wondering whether to sell it, or restore it and keep it as a PR tool. It all depends on what we might get for it as it is. The engine is pretty much perfect.

Ebay is an option but would like a rough idea what it might be worth?

for a s3 ambulance.. or is that a late 2a?

st johns bit will give it a bump up.. 2-5k ?

sure if marketing got on the case with an auction event, you'd get more

I'm a fleet manager for SJA, it's still owned by us. Currently collecting dust while we decide one way or anther what to do with it.

Anything is only worth what someone will pay, guessing this with old and unusual vehicles is a bit of a waste of time. The market will decide, local paper, auto trader, lr mags, e-bay. The choice is yours, or all of them, see what offers you get.;)

What sort of engine does it have?, that is usually of interest to buyers!

Quite a specialized thing, only really of interest to someone who wants a camper or suchlike, I would think.

50k is a low mileage, but if the plate is any guide that is not the most sought after landy ever, not old enough to be very rare, or tax exempt, and that vintage has a bad rep. for metal quality.

I doubt if the designer of the cooling system would be thrilled to see the spare wheel mounted in front of the rad like that, but it probably wont have done much harm with light use in UK conditions.

Fair enough, proper answers then....

There's not many about so at auction prices can vary wildly. If it's on the road and without any major issues 2-3k would be normal.

There's two distinct type of buyers for these, Collectors that will want to restore to original spec and expedition campers, both pay the same for a base vehicle needing work and both will want to carry out different work on it themselves.

Unless you want to keep it a restoration (other than roadworthiness) doesn't make much sense as you're effectively reducing the number of potential buyers and increasing the value by probably less than it'll cost.

What engine is fitted?

It's a 2.3 petrol engine which I am guessing is less desired than a derv?

It's been serviced every year, and then done very few miles between services, maybe 500 if that.

2268 cc, usually known as a two and a quarter! ;)

Diesels are a bit more sought after, although the petrols are quite a reliable engine. It may not make much difference, most vehicles like that don't do huge mileages.
These engines are ten a penny, although having been well looked after is a plus, what really determines the worth of a vehicle like this is the rust status of the chassis and bulkhead. :)

We've had it since new, acquired on 13/07/81 No details on the V5 or docs I have about who built it, there may be a plaque in it somewhere that will say but it's not at where I'm based. I could have a look tomorrow.

The 2 1/4 petrol is much more comfortable lugging that body around than the diesel so that's not really a drawback. Quite a few have V8's but they are seriously thirsty

there's very little rust on it. The last MOT had it's first ever advisory which is "minor exhaust leak".

Ok I was well off with the miles it's done. It's done 23k miles in 35 years.

That is a very low mileage for the year, I wonder whether it might be worth sticking an ad in the specialist mags for that, see who comes out of the woodwork.

I think BB is right about the power with that bodywork, its a while since I had a 2 1/4 diesel, forgotten how gutless they are.:D

Coach builder plate is usually front nearside of the body but was often painted over
