Looks similar to the one I have at the moment on my RRC

mines is the 12000lbs version and has pulled a good few cars out of very sticky places :)

I upgraded the solenoid to an albright one though just to be on the safe side ;)

U ever used one? So full of ****! They are great winches. Upgrade to the rope 1 and u will not be disappointed. Its happy to lift the weight of my fully loaded 110 and has pulled me a full length under muddy water. Maybe not the fastest but move the solenoid inside the can and if used properly it will do anything the major money winches will do. Crap. Ha. Too much money spare methinks!

I had he same winch on my Defender when I had it.
Mine was the 12000lbs version (and a bit older than that one!)

It was awsome mate, never let me down once and I used it alot for self recovery! (another story lol)

Just because it doesn't cost a billion quid don't mean it don't work....

It got me out of the ****e a few times!

I put on the 12000lbs synthetic rope and found it alot more manageable and easier to maintain!!

i need to take you on one of our winch challenge events.
the front winch will get used approx 20-30 times and the rear prob about 10 times including allowing a steep descent forward

i would be be willing to bet you the price of your winch that by the end of the day it will be in pieces or burnt out..
if you just want a mickey mouse winch that will occassionly pull you out of some mud then yeh go for it but dont come crying on ere in 6 months when its full of mud and packed up

however if ya want a reliable winch that will pull you up,over, and around anything inc near vertical slopes then you gotta dip deeper into your pockets im afraid

oh and yes my mate has one...

I've got 2, use them hard and regularly dragging timber in the woods.....its true they're not as fast as a Warn or Superwinch but no complaints about power or reliability.
The worst I could say about them is the chrome is rubbish so they wont stay shiney for long but if that doesn't worry you then they are a good buy

ive just realised ive been reading this fred all wrong..

the winch is to go on a p38 so im guessing it will be used to pull the p38 into the garage when all the electrics have failed and obviously not to be used in an offroad / recovery situation.

so yes im sorry the winch will be absolutly fine and if you wanna pull some logs to your wood burner it will also do the job..sorry again..

haha.....funny.....slightly cruel but funny :D

oh and i int talking a few logs....4 tons of oak tree up 40 degree inclines through underbrush....... but yeah your probably right, I got very little interest in dragging me Landy up a cliff

hehehe..i did chuckle..
horses for courses and all that,in competition you need strength and reliability so you gotta pay for a decent winch or prepare to fail.

i understand that as a working winch you aint gonna fork out £1500 upwards for a winch and as an occassional recovery winch im sure it will perform as you wanted it to..

but the original qs asked what do we think of this winch so i replied honestly

You can't use to drag the p38 into the garage!
the fusebox will have blowen and there will be no electrics....:brushteeth:

well i didnt mean to cause a fuss lads!!!

let me point out again that i dont go off roading. i live up a mountain and in the country and with the weather the way it is want options for my range rover. its currently hitting -11 in my house at the moment and the water pipes keep freezing etc so if (god forbid) i was to slide in to a ditch or unable to get up a hill i could have a good helping hand etc.

so im thinking this winch might do the trick for me. i might get used 10 times a year??? who knows.

anyway @ jwaldron here are pics with the nudge bar fitted. winch tray is being collected tomorrow and im expecting it in the new year so will ad more pics when its fitted then.

bear in mind that you will also need a discovery of a defender to go with you everytime ahead of you so when ya get stuck you have something you can winch off,you cant winch of thin air ya know

and the likelyhood of a tree being close to where you get stuck?..hmmm
