im pretty sure my series 3 is a really early one, its ex army, how can I find out the year it was made, and if it is pre 73 how do I prove it....

well the plate and first registration are much later than the landy is, because it's ex army and it just has when it was released from service, but just went to your link and filled in the details and it say's its a 1972!! so now where do I go from here, to prove its a 1972, and get the v5 changed to historical vehicle...

cheers oil dripper, just filled in all the info, paid me fiver, now just gotta keep my fingers toes and everything inbetween crossed, I'll be over the moon if it comes back 72!! but Im not gonna hold my breath....

I did this for mine only a few week ago, the e mail confirmation is pretty quick, the certificate is about 3 weeks

Once you have this go to local dvla office with tax disc, mot and the certificate and when I went to Leeds it took about half hour and walked away with new reg details and a tax disc, doesn't cost a penny at dvla

just the massive IF it's a 1972 tho, Ive herd genuine pre 73 series are pretty rare, and mines as straight as an arrow, so im not gonna get too excited, must admit I'll be going through the roof if it is!!! :)

Good luck Web. But remember, if the date is actually up to 7th January 1973 you are OK as they give a weeks grace and assume (probably sensibly) that it was ACTUALLY built in the last days of 72.

Web, just spotted on the Heritage site that the £5 service...

This is a way to confirm a detail from a vehicle's build record, such as a date of manufacture or original colour, in an informal manner. This enquiry service is for a single piece of information. If you require all the information held in a vehicle's build record, you will need to purchase a Heritage Certificate. Please note, this information in provided by email and will not be accepted by registration authorities. If you require information in a formal manner, you will need to purchase either a Heritage Certificate or BMIHT dating letter. This option is only available for a vehicle with a chassis number (VIN).

You will need a higher level of service to get recognized documentation. And just for info, S3 were made from the back end of '71, so up to about 18 month worth of S3 are exempt.

well chaps, me thinking my series was an early one was way off the mark, got an email back today and its a 1979 so thats ****ed all over the matches, nevermind I can put that to bed now....:violin:

Nope its pre-1973 since the 25 year rule was axed to stop rich people taxing their classic sports cars for nowt:rolleyes:

Just done my VIN and its very interesting.........................

Manufacturer code: Land Rover
LB Model: Series III (for early models: Stage One)
C Wheel base: 109 inch (LWB)
A Body type: 2-door: Pickup, hood cab, truck cab, or soft/hard top
G Engine type: 2.25 litre diesel (model 10J)

Any ideas where I could find it was exported to?I,m betting on Oz because of a few info plates under the bonnet but I,m wondering how it got back to the UK/
According to the log book its had 3 owners from UK registration but I,d love to know a bit more about its history
