Hi,
Can anyone tell me what approx year this steering column is from the pic of the top?
Any other cars use this as I want to find what steering wheels would fit it.
Cheers Toby

If topics have been covered of times then you may as well cancel any further posts. If you have taken the time to comment and call him a lazy bastard the same time could have been spent pointing him towards those earlier posts. This doesnt seem to be the beginner friendly forum it first seemed to be.

Drivel must have had a sniff of the barmaid's apron last night, and is one of those few people that can turn a fully functioning engine into a garden ornament! :D :D

Thanks for your different levels of help.
Having recently purchased another LR after 7 years without one (so didn't want to post details about the other cars I have owned),i have read a number of posts on various forums. I just wanted to check what vintage column I had so I can try to find other BL steering wheel options such as Stag/2500 wheels etc.
Cheers

any later austin steering wheel will fit that spline such as

metro / montego / maestro / some later minis

and somewhere ive seen a ford cortina steering wheel on a series 3 before now

Hi Toby, I asked a similar question last week but without the helpful picture.

I got no answers to my post because it seems it is a tricky one to answer. Hence Dr Evil's inability to provide any useful information. From the look of your steering column I think it is a 48 spline version (count them - it's the only way to tell) and if so it's 19mm. I wasn't sure where to measure as obviously the splines are a different diameter to the threaded section - it seems the measurement is taken at the treaded section.

My Landy is a 1982 S3 Safari - but that is not much help to you as it seems they fitted various columns at various times according to what was available. On the basis of the often repeated hypothesis that a 1980's BL wheel should fit an 80's landy, I bought myself a Rover P6 wheel - but it doesn't fit. Much smaller shaft. So I will have to cobble something together if I am going to use it.

I think early Disco wheels are 48 spline - like the one in the attached picture.

good luck! Justin
