My bug bare is having different tyres on each wheel so it looks like I'll need some new rubber, I'm currently on 16s but unsure what to get
Most of my driving will be road but with some green laning involved
I'm leaning towards AT such as bf Goodrich or similar but do I also go for a larger tyre or not
Your advice would be welcome
Thanks

I would stay with 16's, give you a larger selection than what is available for my 18's.
I ran General Grabber AT2s for years and found them to be an excellent tyre, I just recently changed over to their new General Grabber AT, if they last as well as the previous set I'll be well pleased. Also run a VW Tiguan and when it needs new boots it will be getting Grabber GTs. I believe the BFGs would also be a good choice but dont come in my size, 255/55/18.

Thanks for that I had seen a set of AT2s on 19"alloys but they were just a little too far for me to get to pick them up

Another tyre question! :pop2:

Don't bother with 19s the ride would be too harsh.

Another great A/T tyre if it comes in a size suitable for 16s (I'm on 18s) is Toyo's Open Country A/T. I do like them for their on road manners as well as performance on the lanes. Hankook may be another choice.

I sit corrected... Does it handle going off road well?

There's no need two be :) and as this is a D2 thread your quiet correct.

A D3 has a very different steering/suspension setup which will enable a larger wheels to be fitted if required, it appears the poster doesn't understand that by the comment made, why?

But as a general rule the ride is harsher when larger wheel + lower profile tyres are retro fitted on a vehicle not designed for them, as my bro found out on his XK8 fitted now with lovely but expensive wheels :(

Im still not decided on tyres yet, Im sticking with 16s but Ive been told I can join a few other discos when they go out green laning
Will a good AT such as bf goodrich be ok or are there any muds that have good road manners where much of its time will be spent
Next question is do I stick to standard size or look for a bigger tyre and lift?????

I would have thought for greenlaning 16"s should be fine and lift not necessary.

That depends what u call a green lane.
For me this is a green lane, somewhere u can take a 4 week old RR :D

A standard 16" should be fine with road-biased tread, our son went out the other week to a P&P site near Milton Keynes and had no trouble at all until his TC packed up, then he just stopped dead.

19" wheels on a D2 are very harsh, at least they were on ours until I got them changed for 16's.

We've run Nexen Roadian A/T's for over three years now and found them to be very good and very competitively priced.

A new set is going on soon, but these have lasted far longer than we expected so the new ones have sat in the stores.
