I have a 2 wheel drive Dodge RAM1500 with a PowerTrax No-Slip locker
installed, and BFG T/A KO's, 265/70/17's. It works great, but of
course has its limits. I need some advice for handling those "over the
limit" situations.
A couple of times, I've gotten stuck in mud, usually where there's
standing water in a patch of grassy pasture, down in the grass where
it's hard to see. This stuff is slippery as bearing grease, and if you
spin at all, you just sink down to the axles, and the mud has the
approximate consistency of mashed potatoes.
I've used my Hi-Lift jack to jack up the truck and put 2X12's under
the wheels, but most of the time this doesn't work. Those boards get
so slippery in that wet, watery mud, they're like a couple of slabs of
ice.
What are some good materials to attach to the surface of thsoe boards,
so the wheels could "grab" them better? I've heard carpet suggested,
for example, but I'm leery of that, especially when it's saturated
with this "bearing grease" mud. Roofing shingles is another idea.
Surely there's something better out there. Say some kind of wire
fencing, for example, or....?
