I wouldn't go to a dealer for a sub-£3,000 car. Remember they have to make some money on it, pay for storage / servicing etc so that's immediately £500 knocked off what you pay. And at that level any warranty will be minimal.
I know you have slightly better protection from a dealer but I'd still rather find one from D2 Boys Club or similar where you can get an idea of the previous owner.
