bottle jacks are good I use one, have trolleys too but as you say not good for lugging around.

you could also try the "hi lift jack" but again stowing it in the car can be a pain, bottle jacks go in the seat box.

from time to time the "proper" shelley screw jacks - similar size to bottle - come up on ebay fairly cheaply with the long handle that attaches to clips on the bulkhead behind the seats. my s1 has that

My s3 88" has one of the proper shelly type screw jacks, fits under the seat nicely

The type for land rovers are listed here (theres 2 or 3 suitable ones) with typical prices, will get a photo of mine up tomorrow, it needs a clean anyway

Small 2 ton Halfrauds hydraulic bottle jack and a block of wood fits under the seat. I use it for punctures (regularly...) It is small enough to pop on the spring plate with a flat tyre on the 88" without the wood.

I have small bottle jack, lifts enough to get wheels on and off, also have hi-lift Jack should I need to take higher but only used it once to lift front end onto axle stands. I am looking for trolley 3 ton Jack for home use only
