I'm not grizzling.........its funny...........and predictable. There are far more serious things in life to worry about............and you sat on your laptop, hammering the keys and spitting at the screen cos we have a difference of opinion on value, really won't lose me any sleep babes.

sweetheart I'm laughing at you not with you- I would suggest you calm down as it will end in a predictable way:D I tried to give you constructive advice and your getting shirty about it

just to add to this post.

As I said earlier scrap it you'll make more money. If your looking to sell it as a complete motor you'll be lucky to get £650 for it. WLM just bought Dartmoor Navigators 300tdi discovery with a blown bottom end. I don't know what he paid but I know DN was asking £450?? WLM has scrapped it and sold the bits off it and Probably made a bit more than £450 and he still has the body & chassis etc to weigh in for scrap..

There's no way your going to get anywhere near what it's worth (to you) on ebay. But if you think That's a load of BS then the simple answer is Stick it on ebay and cross your fingers.

yes i did get it for £450 after i paid my mrs back the £450 all the parts i then sold made me £495 i then was left with fooked engine with good turbo engine/gearbox transfer box and axles/diffs and the wheels tyres
by this time the neighbours were getting a bit restless
if i had the time and space i would have pulled the rest out of it but i sold it as it was to a member on ere for £200

so in total i made £695 on top of the original purchase price

Breaking it is an option, and I have the room to do it, and the means to get rid of a shell. It just seemed a real shame to waste a very solid and tidy Disco, which would make someone an excellent vehicle for laning or everyday use........that is why I wanted to move it on to someone who could make the most of it.

And yes, I probably do want a bit more for it than the average rotten disco, because of its condition and all the extras. Just thought someone might want to see it and maybe have a punt.

For me it is a case of weighing up the options. And any input and opinions are appreciated..........no matter what is said, positive or negative.

Say for example you wanted 800 quid for it and it is as rust free as you say it is... Why would someone pay that plus 300 quid plus pay to collect your discovery and the new engine... Then spend a day or two fitting the engine when if you search long n hard enough you could pick up a decent disco for 1200 quid that's ready to drive away... I just this you want to much for it, regardless of the stuff already on it, which to me sounds like a homemade winch bumper, winch, a lift kit n some bigger wheels...

Yeah you are dead right..........but, if someone already has an engine, or a rotten disco, and maybe a trailer to collect, then all of those things can be disregarded...........that is the point..........for the right person, it could be worthwhile..........for a bargain hunter who wants a steal, or someone that has no resources, its no good...........that is the point of the post..........Unless you ask questions or have a look, you wouldnt know if its a homemade winch bumper or not.........and all of those things are not cheap to buy new or secondhand............you are kind of hinting that they are worthless, which if you were selling them, your opinion may be different.

If you have the original bumpers I'd be tempted to sell the goodies and then sell the disco as a non runner. as the option for least hassle failing that a full strip and break.

If I had some dosh to spare I'd consider buying yours putting my engine in it and then breaking mine as Mines welded to death and would be better with a Good body shell.

I sold all the original parts as I went, cos I knew I would never re-fit any of it, and the cash was handy.

To me the extra's are of no great value, I still find it odd your prepared to break it but wouldn't put an engine in it.

Also as Wiltshire, redhand and myself have pointed out people who buy to break don't let sentimental over it.

So cheapest option sling another engine in it, next option take the tinsel off and dog it off on eBay, lastly strip it and scrap it.

I don't get sentimental with vehicles. I just would rather see someone get the best out of it..........The trouble with fitting another engine is its an unknown. I would at least want to do the top end on it first. With a clutch and anything else, it can mount up.........and in the end, the engine still might be rough. You are right with what you say. But I don't have the patience at the moment to do the engine change, and any hassles I might get along the way........a mixture of frustration, work, time, home life, and the fact that I might be disappointed if I fit an engine that turns out to be ****e.

If I did do the engine, I would probably consider rebuiling mine. Most of the engines on ebay seem to have over 200k miles and are tatty, for over £400 most of em. Would need a serious looking at anyway.

Has anyone ever seen a motor that has died of the same thing as mine.......is it likely to be a bent crank?

usually bent pushrods or bent conrod. I've never heard of a bent crank. did you try starting it after you'd flooded it or did yu stop it staright away? I drowned mine but luckily Switched it off as soon as I realised it was gonna drown. and got away with removing glow plugs and cranking it over to pump water out of engine took a few tries to get it to start. But managed it eventually.. No damage at all.. :D

It cut out, but I winched it out, and then tried to start it..........just not thinking straight. I wasnt sure if the battery was low at the time from the winching or if the engine had locked. And turning it by hand, it just comes to a stop.........its the leaking rear oil seal that made me think the crank was damaged.

my advice is glow plugs out to remove compression chartged battery and turn it over. and see what transpires. whilest it's spinning check the front pulley if crank is bent it'll be wobbling like fook

I already did that, but with the injectors out, put some WD40 down the bores and tried to spin it. It must have been jammed, so I backed it off by hand with a spanner on the front pulley, and turned it til it hit the same obstruction going the other way. Something big is bent, broke or both.
