Hi all on the O/S of the engine bay I have a small cream coloured plug hanging down, The pulg has two wires coming from it a black wire and a white with a brown stripe.

The wires lead back to the loom towards the rear of the engine.

The vehicle runs fine and I have no warning lights

any idea's????

Probably something for the V8 engine that the TD5 doesn't use.

I had a look through the connector listing in RAVE, but didn't pick it up, there's a lot of stuff in there for SAI etc for the V8.

It's the Connector for the Oil Pressure Switch -

he said o/s of car?

There's only one connector of that configuration, with those wiring colours, in the engine bay.

That branch of the harness and it's connector comes from the main harness on the O/S of the vehicle and, as shown in dmyttion's picture, has been taped back on to that side.

Guys, I have had a quick look, and if I use a mirror I can see the pressure switch that has nothing plugged into it!!!!
I will plug it back in and see if anything happens by way of a light on the dash board. I just hope it was'nt un-plugged for a reason by the previous owner. thanks for your help.

Let us know how you got on :)

I have taken the heat shield off so I can get to the oil pressure switch and the plug fits fine, However the plug has two wires coming out of it, I have traced them back to the loom, just above the starter motor. The white with yellow stripe wire goes back to this point. But the Black wire is only about 10" long and is connected to nothing! I have exposed the loom at the point of entry for the white & yellow wire (above the starter motor) and can see no sign of the other end of the black wire, thinking it may have broken off.
I am now wondering if the black wire should be earthed some where else and was never intended to go back into the loom. Or the oil pressure switch requires just one wire and it earths via the block.
The oil light comes on when I turn the key and goes out within a second or two after starting. this happens with or without the plug connected to the oil pressure switch.
Any idea's

White/Yellow  - it should be White/Brown

How many connector pins are on the Oil Pressure Switch ?

According to the RAVE Electrical Library, the TD5 should have two - one for the Warning Light connection (WN) and one for Earth (B)

(although, RAVE isn't always correct  )

Confusingly, the RAVE Circuit Diagrams show the TD5 Oil Pressure Switch earthing down through it's fixing

If the RAVE Electrical Library is correct, your engine may have had an Aftermarket Oil Pressure Switch fitted - one that earths down though it's fixing to the Oil Cooler Housing/Engine Block.

If there is only one connector pin on the Oil Pressure Switch, you can test if it has a path to earth with the engine not running, by using a continuity meter or test light.

That's very confusing

first off the white wire is white and brown

The oil switch has only ONE connector so the back wire coming out the back of the plug plugged into nothing. I have tested the plug and the white & brown wire is live with the ignition on. I have tested the switch and that works. The light on the dash works fine.

All in all the a result, many thanks for your help
